Chapterhouse: Dune is a science fiction novel by Frank Herbert, last in his series of six Dune novels.

Published in 1985, it is also known variously as Chapterhouse Dune, Chapter House Dune, and Chapter House: Dune, and rose to # 2 on The New York Times Best Seller list.

The Bene Gesserit are also terraforming the planet Chapterhouse to accommodate the all-important sandworms, whose native planet Dune had been destroyed by the Matres.

Chapterhouse: Dune debuted at # 5 and rose to # 2 on The New York Times Best Seller list.

They drown the worm in a mixture of water and spice, turning it into sandtrout which will turn the secret Bene Gesserit planet Chapterhouse into another Dune.

Paul Atreides is a Mentat duke ( and later emperor ) in Dune, and in Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), Miles Teg is a Mentat bashar ( or general ) and the most formidable military commander in the known universe.

Later, in Chapterhouse Dune, the Duncan ghola speaks to the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother Bellonda and recalls his past incarnation from the time of Leto II:

At the end of Frank Herbert's sixth and last book in the Dune series, Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), a ghola of Scytale is seemingly the only Tleilaxu Master left alive.

In Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Hunters of Dune, the 2006 sequel to Chapterhouse: Dune, Scytale is a prisoner on the no-ship Ithaca, at the mercy of the latest Duncan Idaho ghola and a rebel group of Bene Gesserit.

Fifteen hundred years later in Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ), the Bene Gesserit have regained their power and relocated to a hidden homeworld they call Chapterhouse, and the spice cycle has been renewed on Arrakis, now called Rakis.

In Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), the Honored Matres begin to destroy all of the Bene Gesserit-controlled planets and enslave the populaces of the other planets they conquer.

In Chapterhouse Dune, the Bene Gesserit have restored their breeding program.

In Chapterhouse Dune, Darwi Odrade is Mother Superior, a contentious choice ratified by the fact that she was present at the previous Mother Superior's death, and has her in Other Memory ; she represents the most continuous line of leadership.

In Chapterhouse Dune, the Bene Gesserit school on Lampadas, under attack by the Honoured Matres, undertakes Extremis Progressiva ; Lucilla escapes with the " Lampadas Horde ", hoping to return to the Bene Gesserit with them.

In Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ) it is revealed that the Tleilaxu Master Scytale possesses a hidden nullentropy capsule containing cells carefully and secretly collected by the Tleilaxu for millennia, including the cells of Paul Atreides, Duke Leto, Jessica, and Gurney.

Fifteen hundred years later in Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), the Bene Gesserit Bellonda assesses the many Duncans who came before:

The Bene Gesserit become the consumers of Idaho gholas in Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse Dune ( 1985 ).

Among the Bene Gesserit, some are willing to accept the merge with the Honored Matres, while others oppose allying with their enemies ; a group of dissenters led by Reverend Mother Sheeana had previously fled Chapterhouse aboard a no-ship upon Murbella's ascension to leadership.

The first bands to attract the shoegazing label ( Slowdive, Chapterhouse, Ride, Moose, Lush and Pale Saints ) were largely influenced by My Bloody Valentine, and emerged in the wake of their breakthrough in 1988 with the " You Made Me Realise " single and the album Isn't Anything, and the shoegazing label has more recently been applied to My Bloody Valentine themselves.

In 1985's Chapterhouse: Dune, Lucilla notes that " Navigators were forever bathed in the orange gas of melange, their features often fogged by the vapors ," that they possess a " tiny v of a mouth " and " ugly flap of nose " and that " Mouth and nose appeared small on a Navigator's gigantic face with its pulsing temples.

She submerges it in a spice bath to generate sandtrout, with the goal of populating Chapterhouse, and later other planets, with new worms and infinite potential for gathering spice.

Chapterhouse eventually found themselves associated with the shoegazing groups of 1991 ( with Lush, Ride, Moose and Slowdive ).

The music of Chapterhouse was mostly out of print on CD until March 2006, when Cherry Red Records reissued the album Whirlpool with bonus tracks, and for the first time, lyrics.

In response to requests over the years, Chapterhouse played live at Club AC30's Reverence show at the ICA on 26 November 2009 along with Ulrich Schnauss and Kirsty Hawkshaw.

In Chapterhouse Dune, Logno assassinates Great Honored Matre Dama with poison while the Bene Gesserit forces are attacking Gammu.

In Chapterhouse: Dune, The Reverend Mother Dortujla describes being approached by a group of Futars and " Handlers " wishing to ally with the Bene Gesserit against the Honored Matres.

In Chapterhouse Dune ( 1985 ), the Honored Matres have destroyed all of the Tleilaxu worlds in retaliation for the Tleilaxu role in programming the latest Duncan Idaho ghola with knowledge of how to sexually enslave Honored Matres.

Frank Herbert was inconsistent with the spelling of " Holtzman ," resulting in the variant spellings " Holtzmann " ( 1976's Children of Dune ) and " Holzmann " ( 1985's Chapterhouse: Dune ).

They ask Duncan and Teg whether they wish to join them and they flee Chapterhouse in the giant no-ship, with Scytale and the Jews from Gammu still aboard.

Bands lumped into the ' scene ' by the press included several of the bands that were branded with the shoegazing label, such as Chapterhouse, Lush, Moose and other ( mainly indie ) bands such as Blur ( prior to the release of their single " Popscene "), Thousand Yard Stare, See See Rider and Stereolab.

The first main plotline follows the adventures of the passengers of the no-ship used by Sheeana and Duncan Idaho to flee from Chapterhouse as a result of Sheeana's disagreement with Bene Gesserit leader Murbella's plans for the Sisterhood.

The architect Diogo Boitac was responsible for the layout of the Manueline church and the Chapterhouse with its basket-handled and ribbed ceilings.

The cliffhanger ending of Frank Herbert's Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ) and his subsequent death in 1986 left some overarching plotlines unresolved.

The Honored Matres are first introduced in Herbert's Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and play a continued role in his final Dune novel, Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ).

In the fifth and sixth novels of the series, Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), 5000 years after the reign of Paul Atreides ( a period that includes 3500 years of Leto II's reign and 1500 years following his death ), the technocrats of Ix develop technology that the Ixians and the Administrative faction of the Spacing Guild refer to as ' compilers '.

At the time of Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ) and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 )— 1500 years after Leto's death — the turmoil is settling into a new pattern ; the balance of power in the Empire rests among the Ixians, the Bene Gesserit, and the Tleilaxu.

At the beginning of Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), a ghola of Teg is birthed on orders from his daughter, Odrade, who is now Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit after Taraza's death at the end of Heretics of Dune.

" Complex in structure though never hard to follow, this sequel to Hunters of Dune ties together the threads left by Chapterhouse: Dune, bringing closure to a saga of planetary birth and death and human courage and hubris.

Meanwhile, Murbella is trying to prevent civil war on Chapterhouse, the only known source of melange left in the universe ( other than the sandworms on the no-ship ).

Chapterhouse eventually signed to the newly formed Dedicated label, releasing a series of singles, including " Pearl ," which featured guest vocals by Rachel Goswell of Slowdive and reached No. 67 in the UK Singles Chart.

The Golden Path is the main driving force in the Frank Herbert-written novels Children of Dune ( 1976 ), God Emperor of Dune ( 1981 ), Heretics of Dune ( 1984 ), and Chapterhouse: Dune ( 1985 ), and is brought to its conclusion in the novels which complete the original series, Hunters of Dune ( 2006 ) and Sandworms of Dune ( 2007 ) by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

With an outline for the first book of Prelude to Dune series written and a proposal sent to publishers, Brian Herbert had discovered his father's 30-page outline for a sequel to Chapterhouse Dune which the elder Herbert had dubbed Dune 7.
