* In 2011, the Oswego, Kansas City Council from neighboring Labette County, Kansas voted to annex Oswego Municipal Airport into the city limits, making Oswego, population 1, 829, the ninth incorporated place in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County was formed in 1839 from a portion of Macon County but Murphy wasn't incorporated as the county seat until 1851.

The city was incorporated in the Cherokee Nation on May 2, 1903.

Gallatin is an incorporated farming community at the junction of Farm roads 22 and 768, six miles north of Rusk in central Cherokee County.

Chilhowie is a town in Smyth County, Virginia, United States. Chilhowie, pronounced Chil ·´ how · ee, the Cherokee word meaning “ valley of many deer ,” was adopted as the town ’ s name when the town became incorporated in 1913.

In 1883, the cattlemen finally incorporated – under the laws of Kansas – as The Cherokee Live Stock Association.

However, unlike the Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics or the Cherokee alphabet, this writing system has not yet been incorporated into the Unicode standards.

It was negotiated and signed by a small faction of Cherokee tribal members, not the tribal leadership, on December 29, 1835.

On either December 26 or 27, Atta and Marwan abandoned a Piper Cherokee that had stalled on the runway of Miami International Airport.

On December 29, 1835, the " Ridge Party " signed the Treaty of New Echota, stipulating terms and conditions for the removal of the Cherokee Nation.

Cherokee County was created by the Alabama legislature on 1836 January 9 following the Treaty of New Echota, 1835 December 29 which was never accepted by the elected tribal leadership or a majority of the Cherokee people because it was signed by a group lacking the authority to sign any documents on behalf of the tribe and despite a tribal law forbidding anyone to sign such a treaty, see Treaty of New Echota.

It was created on December 18, 1833 from land formerly belonging to the Cherokee Indian Nation.

Paulding County was created from Cherokee County by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on December 3, 1832.

Hall County was created on December 15, 1818, from Cherokee lands ceded by the Treaty of Cherokee Agency ( 1817 ) and Treaty of Washington ( 1819 ).

Even while Cherokees remained on their homeland, the General Assembly enacted legislation in December 1830 that provided for surveying the Cherokee Nation in Georgia and dividing it into sections, districts, and land lots.

An act of December 3, 1832 divided the Cherokee lands into ten new counties — Cass ( later renamed Bartow ), Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding, and Union.

It was not until December 29, 1835 that Georgia had an official basis for claiming the unceded Cherokee lands that included the future location of Gordon County.

The county was established on December 3, 1832, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly and was created from land that was part of Cherokee County at the time.

Cobb, along with several other counties in the same bill, was created December 3, 1832, by the Georgia General Assembly from the huge Cherokee " county " territory — land northwest of the Chattahoochee River which the state confiscated from the Cherokee Nation and redistributed to settlers via lottery, following the passage of the federal Indian Removal Act .< ref >

Bartow County was created from the Cherokee lands of the Cherokee County territory on December 3, 1832, and named Cass County, after General Lewis Cass ( 1782 – 1866 ) Secretary of War under President Jackson, Minister to France and Secretary of State under President Buchannan, until renamed on December 6, 1861 in honor of Francis S. Bartow.

In December 1780, Col. John Sevier, fresh off a victory over the British at King's Mountain, launched a punitive expedition against the Cherokee.

* December 29, 1835: Treaty of New Echota signed, ceding all the lands of the Cherokee east of the Mississippi to the United States

It was created on December 18, 1857 from parts of northeastern Cobb, southeastern Cherokee, and southwestern Forsyth counties.
