Many years later, Sharp recalled the story of his meeting with Clapton:

In 1978, for Korner's 50th birthday, an all-star concert was held featuring many of his above-mentioned friends, as well as Eric Clapton, Paul Jones, Chris Farlowe, Zoot Money and others, which was later released as The Party Album, and as a video.

" His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably The Beatles, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Bob Dylan, and Eric Clapton, and exerted a profound influence on popular music.

He also wrote " Technopolis " ( 1979 ), which contributed to the development of techno, and the international hit " Behind the Mask " ( 1978 ), a synthpop song for which he sang the vocals through a vocoder and which would later be covered by a number of international artists, including Michael Jackson and Eric Clapton.

Indeed, Clapton later revealed that he had wanted to join the group.

Clapton has also commented that Cream's later gigs mainly consisted of its members showing off.

Although the three musicians chose not to speak publicly about the shows, Clapton would later state that he had become more " generous " in regard to his past, and that the physical health of Bruce and Baker was a major factor: Bruce had recently undergone a liver transplant for liver cancer, and had almost lost his life, while Baker had severe arthritis.

The romance theme was later given lyrics, and became the pop standard " Smile ", first recorded by Nat King Cole and later covered by artists as Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Trini Lopez, Eric Clapton, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Michael Bublé, Petula Clark, Liberace, Judy Garland, Madeleine Peyroux, Plácido Domingo and Dionne Warwick, Michael Jackson and Robert Downey, Jr. ( included on the soundtrack for the film Chaplin ).

The band and chorus included Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, all of whom except Beck later worked together on Live Aid.

A full-length virtuoso guitar showpiece employing both the blues scale and distortion, Mack's " Memphis " ushered in the era of blues-rock guitar, a genre which reached its zenith in the later recordings of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

The original Gibson Les Paul-guitar design regained popularity when Eric Clapton began playing the instrument a few years later, although he also played an SG and an ES-335.

In 2003, Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor and Chris Barber reunited with the band for John Mayall's 70th Birthday Concert in Liverpool — the concert was later released on CD and DVD.

Mayall and Clapton cut a couple tracks without the others ( although some sources give this as occurring back in the summer ): " Lonely Years " b / w " Bernard Jenkins " was released as a single the next August on producer Mike Vernon's Purdah Records label ( both tracks appeared again two decades later in Clapton's Crossroads box set ).

He later performed with Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley and George Thorogood on Thorogood's 1995 live album Live: Let's Work Together.

While the members of rock bands of the era were not technically singer-songwriters as solo acts, many were singer-songwriters who created songs with other band members including Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, Elton John ( with Bernie Taupin ), Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Robbie Robertson, Ian Anderson, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and Peter Frampton ; Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and many others like Eric Clapton found success as singer-songwriters in their later careers.

One such informal rehearsal took place in Harrison ’ s hotel room, where he and Peter Frampton ran through the entire set together − a measure, Frampton later realised, taken by Harrison to cover the increasing likelihood of a Clapton no-show.

In later years he recorded with John Mayall, Mick Taylor, Eric Clapton and The Band.

The track never made the Thriller album but Phillinganes, at the time keyboard player for Jackson, later released his own version of the song on his 1984 Pulse album, which resembles the Clapton version that became Augusts lead single in the UK.

Kamen and Clapton had worked together on the music for the 1985 BBC TV series Edge of Darkness ( the feature adaptation of which would later, by coincidence, star Mel Gibson ).

The Nelson Mandela concert had already lined up appearances by many of Amnesty's most prominent supporters in the music community – including Sting, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Jackson Browne, Steven van Zandt, Midge Ure, Simple Minds, Youssou N ’ Dour, Joan Armatrading – all of whom declined to partake in the new Amnesty show taking place at short notice just one week later.

The title track ( taken from an odd dream Scott Mathews had ) was re-recorded two decades later by Eric Clapton and B. B.

According to Boyd, Clapton played the song for her at a party, and later that same evening confessed to George that he was in love with his wife.

In his introduction of The Band during the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert, Clapton announced that in 1968 he'd heard the album, " and it changed my life.

Highlights included the roots of rock, a focus on three key innovators — Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Janis Joplin.

He has worked with such artists as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Easybeats, The Band, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Eric Clapton, The Clash, The Steve Miller Band, Small Faces, Spooky Tooth, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Blue Öyster Cult, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Midnight Oil, New Model Army, Belly, Joe Satriani, Ronnie Lane, Rod Stewart with Faces, Joan Armatrading, Buckacre, Gallagher and Lyle, Georgie Fame, Family, Helen Watson, Fairport Convention, Humble Pie, Band of Horsesand many others.

There they backed up, among others, Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison.

Jeff Beck, Duff McKagan, Jack Rose, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Cub Koda, Marc Bolan, Neil Young and Bob Dylan have all cited Wray as an influence ; Dylan's song " Sign Language ", which he sang with Eric Clapton on Clapton's No Reason to Cry album, mentions Link Wray.

The event was the first-ever benefit concert of such a magnitude and featured a supergroup of performers that included Harrison, fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and the band Badfinger.

As well as the songs he would go on to perform on the day, his list included “ All Things Must Pass ” (“ with Leon ”, apparently ) and “ Art of Dying ” − both from All Things Must Pass − and “ Bangla Desh ”’ s B-side, “ Deep Blue ”; Clapton ’ s song “ Let It Rain ” appeared also, implying that the guitarist was expected to have his own solo spot ; while the suggestions for Dylan ’ s set were “ If Not for You ”, “ Watching the River Flow ” ( his recent, Leon Russell-produced single ) and “ Blowin ' in the Wind ”.

Both Dylan and Clapton finally appeared at the soundcheck that night.

Bruce Springsteen has been presented the award three times, and two-time winners include Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Don Henley, and Robert Palmer.

Jakob Dylan and the Gold Mountain Rebels did a 10-day tour in Europe opening for Eric Clapton in mid-August, and some shows in August and September opening for Willie Nelson at FarmAid in the U. S. In October he did a ten day tour in Europe playing shows in Germany and the UK.

's were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Cropper appeared with a new line-up of the group for the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary concert, on October 1992 at Madison Square Garden, performing songs by and backing Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Chrissie Hynde, Sinéad O ' Connor, Stevie Wonder and Neil Young.
