* September 18 – The Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System ( later known as CBS ) is formed and goes on the air with 47 radio stations.

The fledgling network soon needed additional investors though, and the Columbia Phonograph Company, manufacturers of Columbia Records, rescued it in April 1927 ; as a result, the network was renamed " Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System.

The younger Paley's career took a fateful turn in 1927 when his father, brother-in-law and some business partners bought a struggling Philadelphia-based radio network of 16 stations called the Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System.

Columbia Records later joined in and that company was renamed the Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System.

The station began its long association with CBS in 1927, when it was one of 16 charter affiliates of a network called the Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System, airing the network's first program on September 18, 1927.
