* 1854 – In his Apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus, Pope Pius IX proclaims the dogmatic definition of Immaculate Conception, which holds that the Virgin Mary was born free of original sin.

The doctrine of papal infallibility was not new and had been used by Pope Pius in defining as dogma, in 1854, the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Marx's clearest formulation of his " Materialist Conception of History " was in the 1859 Preface to his book " A contribution to the Critique of Political Economy ," whose relevant passage is reproduced here:

The Immaculate Conception is a dogma of the Catholic Church maintaining that from the moment when she was conceived the Blessed Virgin Mary was kept free of original sin and was filled with the sanctifying grace normally conferred during baptism.

The defined dogma of the Immaculate Conception regards original sin only, saying that Mary was preserved from any stain ( in Latin, macula or labes, the second of these two synonymous words being the one used in the formal definition ).

The Church celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception ( when Mary was conceived free from original sin ) on 8 December, exactly nine months before celebrating the Nativity of Mary.

A feast of the Conception of the Most Holy and All Pure Mother of God was celebrated in Syria on 9 December perhaps as early as the 5th century.

By the 7th century the feast of her conception was widely celebrated in the East, under the name of the Conception ( active ) of Saint Anne.

In the West it was known as the feast of the Conception ( passive ) of Mary, and was associated particularly with the Normans, whether these introduced it directly from the East or took it from English usage.

It was not until 1854 that Pope Pius IX, with the support of the overwhelming majority of Roman Catholic bishops, whom he had consulted between 1851 – 1853, promulgated the papal bull Ineffabilis Deus ( Latin for " Ineffable God "), which defined ex cathedra the dogma of the Immaculate Conception:

The third important work of this period is the Virgin of the Rocks which was commissioned in Milan for the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception.

He was also the first Pope to bestow the Immaculate Conception as Patroness to the Philippine Islands on 9 February 1579.

He developed this conception further in several books, The Theory of Knowledge Implicit in Goethe's World-Conception ( 1886 ) and Goethe's Conception of the World ( 1897 ), particularly emphasizing the transformation in Goethe's approach from the physical sciences, where experiment played the primary role, to plant biology, where imagination was required to find the biological archetypes ( Urpflanze ), and postulated that Goethe had sought but been unable to fully find the further transformation in scientific thinking necessary to properly interpret and understand the animal kingdom.

Abraham Brill in 1913 wrote “ The Conception of Homosexuality ”, which he published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and read before the American Medical Association ’ s annual meeting, where it was criticised by several doctors.

At first, the school was named after the surrounding Immaculate Conception parish and did not offer higher education.
