BBMF moved to its present home at RAF Coningsby in 1976, since then it has acquired several more aircraft including, the first Chipmunk acquired in 1983, and a Dakota was originally acquired in 1995, as a more reliable multi engine trainer than the De Havilland Devon, that was nicknamed the ' Devon State Two ' due to its tendency to return to the ground on an Emergency State Two, but has since taken a fuller role in BBMFs line up.

Earl Coningsby was a title in the Peerage of Great Britain.
Coningsby had already been created Baron Coningsby, of Clanbrassil, in the Peerage of Ireland in 1693, with normal remainder to heirs male, and Baron Coningsby in the Peerage of Great Britain in 1716, with similar remainder as for the earldom.

There was still need for a final polish for new Hampden crews and in February 1941 No 106 left its ' C ' Flight at Finningley to continue with this task while the rest of the squadron moved to RAF Coningsby for full offensive operations.

* 97 Sqn reformed here on 25 February 1941 with the Avro Manchester before moving to RAF Coningsby on 10 March 1941.
11 Squadron was disbanded in October 2005, but it re-formed at RAF Coningsby on 29 March 2007 flying the Eurofighter Typhoon F2.
The Squadron stood up at Coningsby on 29 March 2007, dropping the ( F ) designation in recognition of its new tasking as the Royal Air Force's lead Typhoon multi-role squadron.

Having returned to operational duties in 1944 after pestering Bomber Command, 25-year-old Gibson was killed along with his navigator, Sqn Ldr Jim Warwick, on a bombing raid on Rheydt ( nowadays a borough of Mönchengladbach ) operating as a Pathfinder Master Bomber based at RAF Coningsby, when his de Havilland Mosquito XX, KB267, crashed near Steenbergen on 19 September 1944.
The west wing was built in 1910, long after Disraeli's death, when the house was in the ownership of his nephew Coningsby Disraeli.
The final Jaquar squadrons departed on 1 April 2006, when No. 6 Squadron RAF transferred to RAF Coningsby, but was subsequently disbanded on 31 May 2007 ( to await delivery of the Eurofighter Typhoon at RAF Leuchars in Scotland ), and No. 41 Squadron RAF transferred to RAF Coningsby in OCU role.
Coningsby took over from Leeming as England's main air defence base in April 2008 when 3 Sqn became fully operational.
Tornado training took place until April 1987, when the Phantoms left ( to RAF Leuchars ) and Coningsby had the first ( 29 Sqn ) Tornado air defence squadron.
However this was delayed until 2010, with the squadron reforming at RAF Leuchars on 6 September 2010, when a closed standing-up ceremony was performed to mark the squadron's reforming, including the arrival of the new Typhoon aircraft in 6 Squadron colours from RAF Coningsby.
From 1967 the squadron operated the English Electric Lightning F3 at RAF Wattisham until 1974 when they equipped with the F-4 Phantom and moved to RAF Coningsby.
