Aylsham once had two railway stations, both now closed, Aylsham South railway station on the Great Eastern line between County School railway station ( near North Elmham ) and Wroxham and the other Aylsham ( North ) railway station on the M & GNJR line from Melton Constable to Yarmouth.

Norwich Thorpe which is the current station now simply named Norwich, which was once the terminus for certain passenger services from the London direction until 1916 as well as a goods station until demolition in the 1970s, and which was the terminus for the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line from Melton Constable which closed in 1959.

Melton Constable Hall, was once part of a large estate, owned since the 13th century by the Astley family until it was sold in 1956.

In that year, Constable wrote a letter to John Dunthorne in which he spelled out his determination to become a professional landscape painter:

Intensely saddened, Constable wrote to his brother Golding, " hourly do I feel the loss of my departed Angel — God only knows how my children will be brought up ... the face of the World is totally changed to me ".

" I have done a good deal of skying ", Constable wrote to Fisher on 23 October 1821 ; " I am determined to conquer all difficulties, and that most arduous one among the rest ".

The residences are named after Horatio Nelson, John Constable, Benjamin Britten, Jeremiah Colman, Horatio Nelson's ship HMS Victory, Robert Kett, Sir Thomas Browne and the Paston family who wrote the Paston Letters.

In fact his distress was so acute that the Constable of the Tower, William Kingston wrote to Cromwell twice begging him to help ease George's conscience.

Constable Dom Pedro, friend of the Marquis of Santillana, wrote almost entirely in Castilian and is the first representative of the Spanish influence which imported from Italy the love of allegory and reverence for classical antiquity.

It was fortunate for Clermont that this was so because one of his captains wrote shortly afterwards that if the Constable ( Richemont ) had not come when he did, Clermont's army would have suffered " irreparable damage ".

He retained influence under Clement VII, suffered a short term of imprisonment after the storming of Rome by the Constable of Bourbon and by Frundsberg ( 1527 ), retired to his bishopric for a few years, and, returning to Rome in 1530, assumed his old position of influence about the person of Clement, in whose behalf he wrote the decision rejecting the appeal for divorce from Catharine of Aragon made by Henry VIII of England.

Shaw had an exalted opinion of Methuselah ( his book ); in the press release he wrote for its publishers ( Constable & Co. A letter sent to enlist the help of George Hay, Earl of Erroll, Hereditary Constable of Scotland, written 24 January 1560 focussed on their secular goal to expel the French garrisons and justifies their request for English military support.

The Coroner advised Dr Howe to contact his medical defence society and the Regional Health Authority and copied his letter to the Chief Constable of the West Midlands Police ( the investigating force ), the local regional Health Authority solicitor and Dr Howe's medical defence society.

Detective Constable " Dangerous " Davies is the central character in a series of comic novels by Leslie Thomas and a TV series, The Last Detective made for ITV.

Constable Clark-Marlowe later believed there was " ample time for Inderjit Sing Reyat to obtain the batteries at the Auto Marine Electric limited store in Burnaby, incorporate the batteries in the assembly of an explosive device and then have the device transported in a suitcase to the Vancouver airport ".

Finally in the west the idea of " art for art's sake " began to find expression in the work of the Romantic painters like Francisco de Goya, John Constable, and J. M. W.

In his youth, Constable embarked on amateur sketching trips in the surrounding Suffolk and Essex countryside that was to become the subject of a large proportion of his art.

In 1799, Constable persuaded his father to let him pursue art, and Golding even granted him a small allowance.

In a series of such lectures at the Royal Institution, Constable proposed a threefold thesis: firstly, landscape painting is scientific as well as poetic ; secondly, the imagination cannot alone produce art to bear comparison with reality ; and thirdly, no great painter was ever self-taught.

A viewing of the paintings of John Constable and the watercolour sketches and art of Richard Parkes Bonnington prompted Delacroix to make extensive, freely painted changes to the sky and distant landscape.

The late 18th century and the early 19th century was perhaps the most radical period in British art, producing William Blake ( 1757 – 1827 ), John Constable ( 1776 – 1837 ) and William Turner ( 1775 – 1851 ), three of the most influential British artists, each of whom have dedicated spaces allocated for their work at the Tate Britain.

The Grade I listed building mansion houses a collection of pottery and glass, a contemporary art gallery and a collection of paintings by artists including John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough.

The late 18th century and the early 19th century characterized by the Romantic movement in British art includes Joseph Wright of Derby, James Ward, Samuel Palmer, Richard Parkes Bonington, John Martin and was perhaps the most radical period in British art, also producing William Blake ( 1757 – 1827 ), John Constable ( 1776 – 1837 ) and J. M. W.

Celebrating their success, they spared no expense on their homes, with interiors decked in detailed mahogany and private art galleries housing works of the likes of Raphael, Rembrandt, Cezanne, Constable and Gainsborough etc.

There is also a significant collection of Victorian era art, including Pre-Raphaelites, which features paintings by artists such as John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Abraham Solomon, Edward John Poynter and Edwin Landseer, and a view of Salisbury Cathedral by John Constable.

He is an avid art collector and owns the world's top collection of John Constable.

There are readings of contemporary poetry from the Poet-in-Residence and visiting poets throughout the summer months, along with regular exhibitions of art ranging from Turner and Constable to new, modern artists and photographers throughout the year.

His study of art began at the age of eight, as a self-taught student inspired by the examples of Turner, Old Crome, and Constable at the National Gallery.

The term " Canadian English " is first attested in a speech by the Reverend A. Constable Geikie in an address to the Canadian Institute in 1857.

Thomas was Constable of Pontefract Castle, where King Richard II is said to have died.

A " Constable Bannerman " is mentioned in the story, but he clearly is not the same person as George Bannerman, the county sheriff who appears in Cujo and The Dead Zone.

As a gesture of appreciation for John Fisher ( Anglican bishop ) | John Fisher, the Bishop of Salisbury, who commissioned this painting, Constable included the Bishop and his wife in the canvas ( bottom left ). The cathedral is the subject of famous paintings by John Constable.

Before 1521, the Lord High Constable of England also presided, but that office was abolished as a permanent institution ( it is " revived " only for a Coronation ).

John Constable described Claude as " the most perfect landscape painter the world ever saw ", and declared that in Claude ’ s landscape " all is lovely – all amiable – all is amenity and repose ; the calm sunshine of the heart ".

The assistant is now called Constable Clitoris, and while he too periodically leaves the room to fight off his nausea, he remains onstage during his last attack of sickness and vomits into his helmet — which he is then forced by his superior to put back on his head.

The southern approach is protected by a long enceinte wall punctuated by two rectangular towers ( the Constable and Egyncleugh towers ), two turrets and a large twin-towered gatehouse at the western corner.

The pineapple-topped obelisk at Holt is one of a pair gateposts from Melton Constable park, the other having been given to the town of Dereham in 1757.

He is also, when roused into action, very enthusiastic and violent, and is a part-time Watch Special Constable, on the agreement that he will not use magic in the course of his duties.

Born in Suffolk, he is known principally for his landscape paintings of Dedham Vale, the area surrounding his home — now known as " Constable Country "— which he invested with an intensity of affection.

When he exhibited it in 1836, Constable appended a text to the title: " The mysterious monument of Stonehenge, standing remote on a bare and boundless heath, as much unconnected with the events of past ages as it is with the uses of the present, carries you back beyond all historical records into the obscurity of a totally unknown period.

The Township of Laughlin, which is a judicial district for the purposes of elections, consists of a Justice Court, presided over by a Justice of the Peace ( elected for a six year term as a non-partisan official ) and a Constable ( elected for a four year term as a partisan official ).

Currently ( 2011 ) the Justice of the Peace is the Honorable Timothy Atkins and the Constable is Jordan Ross ( Republican ).

* Constable Hook is the site of two burials grounds known as the Constable Hook Cemetery, numerous tank farms and the Bayonne Golf Club, situated at the city's highest point
