Richard Pettit for illegal incarceration during World War II in prison camp Wauwilermoos, in neutral Switzerland.

The elections were a turning point for the DPS.

Bulatović, his one-time mentor, was completely squeezed out and now all institutions of power ( DPS party, government, parliament and President's office ) were firmly in the hands of Đukanović and his handpicked circle of associates.

Since none of this was supported at the time by the Montenegrin ruling regime embodied in Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro ( DPS ), which during that period maintained close ties to Milošević's regime in Serbia, initial MOC's activities were very sporadic.

At the last legislative elections in Montenegro on the 10 September 2006, DPS along with Social Democratic Party of Montenegro ( SDP ) as the Coalition for a European Montenegro won 39 out of 81 seats, and the right to appoint the Government.
