Daffy starred in 133 shorts in the Golden Age, making him the third-most frequent character in the Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies cartoons, behind Bugs Bunny's 166 appearances and Porky Pig's 159 appearances.

Once production shifted to DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, Witch Hazel appeared in the 1966 cartoon A-Haunting We Will Go ( 1966 film ), which also starred Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales.

This short, starring Porky Pig, is notable for being the first appearance of the character Daffy Duck.

The character's relationship with his cartoonist is very similar to that of Daffy Duck's plight in the Warner Brothers ' 1953 cartoon short Duck Amuck where he too is at the mercy of the cartoonist ( Chuck Jones ).

The WB removed that line when the short aired on " The Bugs N ' Daffy Show ".

Friz Freleng used the Jones idea for Daffy in " Show Biz Bugs " ( 1957 ) wherein Daffy's " trained " pigeon act ( they all fly away as soon as Daffy opens their cage ) and complicated tap dance number are answered by nothing but crickets chirping in the audience, whereas Bugs's simple song-and-dance numbers bring wild applause.

It's worth mentioning, though, that in many of the later DFE cartoons, such as " Feather Finger " and " Daffy's Diner ," Daffy is portrayed as a more sympathetic character rather than the full-blown villain he is in cartoons like " Well Worn Daffy " and " Assault and Peppered.
