In keeping with its many Walter Scott references, Rose Street in Edinburgh has a bar called the " Kenilworth ", along with one named the " Abbotsford ".

Non-league sides include Spartans and Edinburgh City, who play in the East of Scotland League along with Civil Service Strollers F. C., Lothian Thistle F. C., Edinburgh University A. F. C., Leith Athletic F. C., Tynecastle F. C., Craigroyston F. C.

A 1929 statue of Robert the Bruce is set in the wall of Edinburgh Castle at the entrance, along with one of William Wallace.

Scott is also commemorated on a stone slab in Makars ' Court, outside The Writers ' Museum, Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, along with other prominent Scottish writers ; quotes from his work are also visible on the Canongate Wall of the Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood.

Well along into his criminal career he was arrested in Scotland and charged with blowing up the safe of the headquarters of the Edinburgh Co-operative Society.

In this context, he associated with Lord Monboddo and other Scottish Enlightenment luminaries in Edinburgh.

In 1819 Brewster undertook further editorial work by establishing, in conjunction with Robert Jameson ( 1774 – 1854 ), the Edinburgh Philosophical Journal, which took the place of the Edinburgh magazine.
