The first ten volumes ( 1819 – 1824 ) were published under the joint editorship of Brewster and Jameson, the remaining four volumes ( 1825 – 1826 ) being edited by Jameson alone.

In 1819 Edward D. Clarke and in 1822 René Juste Haüy described fluorescence in fluorites, Sir David Brewster described the phenomenon for chlorophyll in 1833 and Sir John Herschel did the same for quinine in 1845.

Dr. John Lingard ( 5 February 1771 – 17 July 1851 ) was an English historian, the author of The History Of England, From the First Invasion by the Romans to the Accession of Henry VIII, an 8-volume work published in 1819.

As early as 1819, Chief Justice John Marshall noted in the famous case McCulloch v. Maryland, that " the opinions expressed by the authors of that work have been justly supposed to be entitled to great respect in expounding the Constitution.

Diez, the principal founder of Romance-language philology, impressed by the comparative methods of Jakob Grimm in Deutsche Grammatik, which came out in 1819 and was the first to use such methods in philology, decided to apply them to the Romance languages and discovered Raynouard's work, Grammaire comparée des langues de l ' Europe latine dans leurs rapports avec la langue des troubadours, published in 1821.

In 1819 the island of Funafuti, was named Ellice's Island ; the name Ellice was applied to all nine islands after the work of English hydrographer Alexander George Findlay ( 1812 – 1876 ).
