Flannery O ' Connor was born on March 25, 1925, in Savannah, Georgia, the only child of Edward F. O ' Connor and Regina Cline.

Other calamities throughout Jewish history are said to have taken place on Tisha B ' Av, including King Edward I's edict compelling the Jews to leave England ( 1290 ) and the Jewish expulsion from Spain in 1492.

This term was in use until 1290 when Edward I had all Jews expelled from England.

It has been claimed that the loss of the income from Jews was a chief reason why Edward I was obliged to give up his right of tallaging Englishmen in general.

* 1274 – King Edward I of England enforces a decree requiring all English Jews to wear yellow badges.

* July 18 – King Edward I of England orders all Jews ( then numbering around 16, 000 ) to leave England by November 1 ( All Saints Day ); on the Hebrew calendar this is Tisha B ' Av, a day that commemorates many calamities.

In 1275, Edward had issued the Statute of the Jewry, which outlawed usury and encouraged the Jews to take up other professions ; in 1279, in the context of a crack-down on coin-clippers, he arrested all the heads of Jewish households in England and had around 300 of them executed.

The final attack on the Jews in England came in the Edict of Expulsion in 1290, whereby Edward formally expelled all Jews from England.

Other contemporary writers have been more willing to criticise Edward for his failings, particularly his severe treatment of the Jews.

At a time of widespread anti-Semitism, Edward attracted criticism for openly socialising with Jews.

While King Edward ordered the Jews to leave England in 1290, Philip the Fair expelled the Jews from France in 1306.

Although still extremely wealthy, the Bigods were now having to borrow increasing sums from first the Jewish community at Bungay and then, after the expulsion of the Jews, Italian merchants ; by the end of the century, Roger was heavily in debt to Edward I as well.

In 1876, Edward Lasker ( a Jewish parliamentarian in the Prussian Landtag ) introduced the " Secession Bill " ( Austrittsgesetz ), which would enable Jews to secede from a religious congregation without having to relinquish their religious status.

Within Aldgate ward, a short distance to the north of the gate, Jews settled from 1181, until their expulsion in 1290 by King Edward I.

A note by Foreign Minister Edward Raczynski entitled The mass extermination of Jews in German occupied Poland, addressed to the governments of the United Nations on 10 December 1942, would later be published along with other documents in a widely distributed leaflet.

Already restricted to a limited number of occupations, Edward abolished their " privilege " to lend money, restricted their movements and activities and forced Jews to wear a yellow patch.
