Esther Hobart Morris ( August 8, 1814 – April 2, 1902 ), a Tioga County, New York native, distinguished herself as the first female Justice of the Peace in the United States.

State officials in 1960 presented a copy of this 1953 bronze statue of Esther Hobart Morris for display at the U. S. Capitol | U. S. Capitol's National Statuary Hall Collection in Washington, D. C.

A story arose from the canyon of South Pass City that celebrated Esther Hobart Morris as the " Mother of Woman Suffrage.
