Fitzroy Island National Park is a gazetted protected area covering Fitzroy Island, Queensland ( also called Koba or Gabar ), a continental island located 22 kilometres east of Cairns, Queensland ( Australia ).

The Island has also been home to lighthouses warning ships in the Grafton Passage of the reefs around the island, and a small automatic light on Little Fitzroy Island, just off the north-east point, still serves this purpose.

There are also Baptist meeting halls on Thomas Street and Killicomaine Road ; an Elim church on Clonavon Avenue ; a Quaker meeting hall on Portmore Street ; a Free Presbyterian church in Levaghery and meeting hall on Fitzroy Street.

FitzRoy purchased the Manor of Tottenhall and built Fitzroy Square, to which he gave his name ; nearby Fitzroy Street also bears his name.

The Club is ruled by Anthony Shaw, a descendant of Sebastian Shaw ; he also has an illegitimate son, Trevor Fitzroy.

However, Charles II also acknowledged her ( with her sister Charlotte ) as one of " his dear and natural daughters by the Duchess of Cleveland " and described her as " the Lady Anne Fitzroy " when granting her a patent of the arms granted to her brother Charles, then Earl ( later Duke ) of Southampton.

Fitzroy is also Melbourne's smallest suburb in terms of area, being approximately 100 Ha.

Many working-class Chinese immigrants also settled in Fitzroy due to its proximity to Chinatown, with also a noticeable Vietnamese community ; a small enclave of Africans lives there, and the area ( particularly Johnston Street ) serves as a centre of Melbourne's Hispanic community, with many Spanish and Latin American-themed restaurants, clubs, bars and some stores.

Fitzroy River, in northern Western Australia, was named after him by Lieutenant John Lort Stokes who, at the time, commanded HMS Beagle ( previously commanded by FitzRoy ).

In August 1994, a historian from Mareeba published a letter in the local newspaper about two tortoises he remembered at the Botanic Gardens in 1922 and that the keepers of the time were saying that the tortoises had arrived at the Gardens in 1860 as a donation from John Clements Wickham, who was the First Lieutenant ( and later Captain ) of HMS Beagle under Fitzroy during the voyage of the Beagle in 1835.

Led by Lieutenant James Marr, the 14-strong team left the Falkland Islands in two ships, HMS William Scoresby ( a minesweeping trawler ) and Fitzroy, on Saturday January 29, 1944.

He attended the group ’ s early gatherings at Gordon Square and Fitzroy Square, and became attracted to Virginia Stephen, to whom he proposed on a punt on the Cam in May 1909, only to be rejected.

In 1525, he was appointed tutor to Henry's illegitimate son Henry Fitzroy ; the programme of studies waa ambitious, following lines suggested by More, Stephen Gardiner and Thomas Elyot, and including music, visual aids and the company of William Parr and the younger brothers of the boy's mother Elizabeth Blount.

The weather ship Weather Advisor ( formerly ) was renamed Admiral Fitzroy in 1976.

In 1896, delegates from the stronger and wealthier VFA clubs — Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fitzroy, Geelong, Melbourne, St Kilda and South Melbourne — met to form a breakaway competition and in 1897, the Victorian Football League ( VFL ), was born as an eight-team competition.
