Renewed Catholic reaction – headed by the powerful Francis, Duke of Guise – led to a massacre of Huguenots at Vassy in 1562, starting the first of the French Wars of Religion, during which English, German, and Spanish forces intervened on the side of rival Protestant and Catholic forces.

Through her maternal grandfather Francis Remnant, Miles claims to be the great-granddaughter of Prince Francis of Teck ( 1870 – 1910 ) and thus a second cousin once removed of Elizabeth II of Great Britain.

Frank Remnant was born in Richmond, Surrey in 1894, and is claimed as the illegitimate son of Prince Francis of Teck, who was born in 1870 and died unmarried in 1910, by a seamstress at White Lodge, Richmond Park.

Her godparents were: Queen Victoria ( her great-grandmother ); the King of Greece ( her granduncle ); the Dowager Empress of Russia ( her paternal grandaunt ); the Prince and Princess of Wales ( her paternal grandparents ); the Duchess of Teck ( her maternal grandmother ); Princess Victoria of Wales ( her paternal aunt ); and Prince Francis of Teck ( her maternal uncle ).

His mother was Mary of Teck, the only daughter of Prince Francis, Duke of Teck and Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge.

Eventually a suitable candidate was found in Württemberg, Prince Francis of Teck.

Francis, Duke of Teck ( Francis Paul Charles Louis Alexander ; 28 August 1837 – 21 January 1900 ), was a member of the German nobility, and later of the British Royal Family.

Francis held the titles of Count of Hohenstein ( Graf von Hohenstein ) and later Duke of Teck ( Herzog von Teck ) and was granted the style His Serene Highness in 1863.

In 1863, Francis was created Prince of Teck, with the style His Serene Highness in the Kingdom of Württemberg.
