Singer / bassist John Wetton and drummer Bill Bruford had worked together in King Crimson from 1972-4, when guitarist Robert Fripp disbanded the group.

It was their last studio recording of the 1970s and the last before the lead member Robert Fripp temporarily disbanded the group.

The 1990s edition of King Crimson toured as a " double power trio " ( according to leader Robert Fripp ), with two drummers, two bassists and two guitars.

However, after being presented with the highly experimental recording ( produced by Robert Fripp of King Crimson ), RCA became unwilling to release what was, in their view, a non-commercial album.

Around this time, Belew also met King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp at a Steve Reich concert.

Adrian Belew has been the singer, guitarist and frontman ( as well as occasional drummer ) in King Crimson since 1981, and has maintained the position ever since despite several splits or hiatuses in group activity ( and despite a very brief period in the early 1990s during which group leader Fripp unsuccessfully invited singer David Sylvian to front a possible new version of the band ).

This made Belew the first guitarist to formally play alongside Fripp within King Crimson on an equal footing ( although both Ian McDonald and John Wetton had very occasionally contributed extra guitar to previous King Crimson recordings ).

However, 1984's Three of a Perfect Pair proved tortuous to write, and although King Crimson eventually created another successful album ( including some Belew experiments with fretless guitar ), Fripp opted to split the band in 1984.

During the 1970s progressive rock, experimental rock, art rock, krautrock and avant-prog genres demonstrated the influence of experimental music, including minimalism, for example acts such as Soft Machine, King Crimson, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp and Mike Oldfield.

She appears as a guest vocalist on the debut album of The Human Experimente, a project which also features Robert Fripp of King Crimson, John Wetton of Asia and King Crimson, Maynard James Keenan of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, Adrian Belew of Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads and King Crimson, U-G-O with Sean Kingston, and Dann Pursey of Globus and Vantan.

With the album on sale, Fripp and Sinfield remained in the awkward position of having King Crimson material and releases available, but not having a band to play it.

This arrangement was issued on their second LP, In the Wake of Poseidon, although for copyright reasons it was renamed " The Devil's Triangle " and Robert Fripp claimed authorship, with Holst receiving no composer credit. A third progressive-rock band, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, performed an arrangement of " Jupiter " with lyrics which they entitled " Joybringer ". Black Metal / Viking Metal band Bathory arranged a section of " Jupiter " as the melody of the song " Hammerheart ", from the album Twilight of the Gods.

After the Synchronicity tour ended in March 1984, the band went on hiatus while Sting recorded and toured in support of his successful solo debut LP, the jazz-influenced The Dream of the Blue Turtles, released in June 1985, Copeland recorded and filmed The Rhythmatist ( 1985 ) and Summers recorded another album with Robert Fripp ( Bewitched, 1984 ) and the theme song for the film 2010.

Later, inspired by Terry Riley's use of one tape on two tape machines, Brian Eno and Robert Fripp created the technical basis for their No Pussyfooting album — this technological concept was later dubbed Frippertronics.
