Greenwich Mean Time ( GMT ) is a time system originally referring to mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, which later became adopted as a global time standard.

In the United Kingdom, GMT is the official time only during winter ; during summer British Summer Time is used.

In the United Kingdom, this is known as British Summer Time ( BST ); in the Republic of Ireland it is called Irish Standard Time ( IST )— officially changing to GMT in winter.

This is four hours before GMT.

It has seen numerous versions and editions, and is currently available as John Prados ' Third Reich from Avalanche Press, and as a far more complex descendant game, A World At War, published by GMT Games.

The attack is announced on radio stations in the US at about 2: 26 p. m. EST ( 19. 26 GMT ).

GMT either by that name or as ' mean time at Greenwich ' used to be an international time standard, but is no longer so ; it was initially renamed in 1928 as Universal Time ( UT ) ( partly as a result of ambiguities arising from the changed practice of starting the astronomical day at midnight instead of at noon, adopted as from 1 January 1925 ).

GMT is now often called Universal Time, which is now calculated from observations of extra-galactic radio sources, and then converted into several forms, including UT0 ( UT at the remote observatory ), UT1 ( UT corrected for polar motion ), and UTC ( UT in discrete SI seconds within 0. 9 s of UT1 ).

Note, for example, that the time zone GMT + 14 will be at the same time of day as GMT − 10, though the former is one day ahead of the latter.
