Prior to his second fight with Majin Buu, Gohan asks Kibito for an outfit resembling his father's, and is then drawn in a keikogi identical to Goku's.

Piccolo, startled by this, then takes Gohan away following the fight and Goku's death, and trains him for the upcoming battle against the two other Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa, though Piccolo is aware that training the son of his greatest enemy will be a risk.

Gohan, along with Krillin and Vegeta, are then forced into an encounter with Frieza, who seeks the Dragon Balls for immortality.

Goku then reveals his intentions: to train Gohan to become a Super Saiyan, and to have Gohan surpass him in strength.

He then trains with Goku and Gohan for three years to prepare for a battle against two powerful androids created by the Red Ribbon Army's Dr. Gero to kill Goku.

One of Piccolo's less frequently used techniques is the ability to fire energy rays from his eyes ( similar to " heat vision "), which he first uses against Krillin's energy attack during their match in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, then later against Goku in the finals, and again when he trains Gohan in the Saiyan Saga.

He then travels with Gohan and Bulma to Planet Namek to use the Namekian Dragon Balls to revive their dead friends, since the Earth's Dragon Balls vanished due to Piccolo's death.

Goku then proceeds to try to find Gohan when he is attacked by the villain's gang, whilst Kami faces Garlic Jr.

Goku then shows a nearby cave to let Gohan keep the dragon with him.

Cooler then sends Salza after Gohan as he continues to blast Piccolo.

Gohan pretends to agree to allow Trunks to join him in the battle, then knocks him unconscious and goes alone.

His tutelage under Piccolo forms a deep bond between the two characters, with Piccolo ultimately sacrificing himself to save Gohan during their fight with Nappa.

Following Gohan's emergence from the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Gohan is depicted as a Super Saiyan, with Piccolo shown thinking to himself that he barely recognized him before granting Gohan's request to give him an outfit resembling his own. After Goku surrenders from his match with Cell, he recommends Gohan to be Cell's next opponent.

When the Saiyans arrive a year later, Piccolo's fondness toward Gohan results in him blocking one of Nappa's attacks aimed at Gohan, which results in the death of himself, Kami, and the Dragon Balls.

After inspecting his fallen friend, Bojack introduces himself and tells Gohan his plans to rule the universe as his revenge.

On Snake Way with King Kai, Goku can't watch any more and, using his Instant Transmission, teleports himself to the fight and punches Bojack before he can finish Gohan off.

As he goes towards Gohan, he mutters to himself about Gohan and why he left, and etc.

Only after Piccolo's training does Gohan start to acquire his father's love of adventure and freedom.

Gohan proved this during the battle against Garlic Jr. when he defeated each of Garlic's minions by killing them, when fighting Cell by claiming a murderer like him needed to suffer before being defeated, and during his battle with Buu, whom he heavily and deliberately humiliated when every of his attacks showed no effect against Gohan.

Initially, Gohan is illustrated garbed in a Hanfu-like surcoat with the Chinese character, fixed on the front and the four-star Dragon Ball fitted on top of his hat.

Normally thereafter, Gohan is drawn with a keikogi modeled after Piccolo's own, with the anime recoloring his wristbands from blue to red and, during the Cell Games tournament, his obi from red to blue, despite reverting to the original colors for the former.

On Namek, Gohan is portrayed in battle armor worn by Frieza's henchmen, having been given it by Vegeta in preparation for their encounter with Frieza.

After Garlic Jr. escaped from the Dead Zone and enslaved most of humanity with the Black Water Mist, Gohan, who was unaffected due to hiding in a cave, is forced to travel to the lookout point to save his mother and friends, together with Krillin and Piccolo.

While outmatched at first, after a reunion with his friends Gohan eventually manages to overcome and send Garlic Jr. back to the Dead Zone by blowing up the Makyo Star that was powering the villain.

Gohan matches Cell's powers with his Super Saiyan form but is reluctant to unleash his full power.

After being constantly tormented by Cell, and after seeing Cell killed Android # 16, an enemy-turned-friend, Gohan, infuriated, ascends to Super Saiyan 2, and later defeats Cell in a Kamehameha struggle, counseled by Goku from the afterlife and winning with the assistance of Vegeta.

Piccolo remains amazed with the powers from Goku's son, Gohan, and trains him to fight against the two Saiyans who will invade Earth.

After the Saiyans are defeated, Gohan and others travel to Piccolo's homeworld Namek to revive those who died against the Saiyans with the Namekian Dragon Balls.

Piccolo trains the boys in fighting the evil creature Majin Buu, but is later absorbed by Buu along with Gotenks and Gohan and incorporated into his being.

Gohan is introduced as the first son of the primary protagonist, Goku, and his wife, Chi-Chi, in volume # 17 of the original manga, or the premiere episode of its animated adaptation, Dragon Ball Z. Gohan is the first Saiyan / Human hybrid in the series.

Being the son of Goku, Gohan inherited great powers of his own, however due to his peaceful nature he only releases them when anger grows inside of him during a battle.

Premiering in the manga chapter # 196 first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on October 24, 1988, Gohan is introduced as the four-year-old son of the series ' main protagonist, Goku.

Later, after Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan and defeats Frieza, Gohan is shown to settle back into school life on Earth, waiting for Goku to return home from Namek.

Following the appearance of Cell, Gohan is taken to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber ( Room Of Spirit ) and trained by Goku.

Several years later, Krillin confronts the Saiyan invaders Vegeta and Nappa along with his friends and is one of the few survivors from the fight, aside from Goku and Gohan.

After Krillin and Gohan collect the seven Dragon Balls, Frieza battles them until Goku appears.

Goku World, Krillin along with Goku, Trunks, Bulma, and Gohan travels back in time to examine event in the past.

Where he and Gohan attempt to save visitors of at Fuji Television's orb section from drowning, while Goku battles Frieza.

Remarkably, in the end of it all, Gohan doesn't remember a thing of what happened, instead believing that his father defeated Garlic Jr., and with amazement, Goku figures his son is no ordinary boy, but one with a great hidden potential.

Another unusual appearance is in the Robot Chicken Christmas Special, during which, in a Dragon Ball Z parody sketch, she gains powers from the North Pole's radiation, and becomes a giant monster that Goku, Gohan, and Rudolph must destroy.

Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, Oolong, Yajirobe and Master Roshi arrive and encounter an army of strange, large, silent robots.
