Worf believed Gowron was the legitimate ruler and convinced his brother to bring forces loyal to him into battle on Gowron's behalf.

After the invasion had begun, Gowron traveled to DS9 to ask Worf to join him in battle.

Gowron punished him by stripping him and his family of his honor, lands and titles.

Shortly before the end of the war (" When It Rains ..."), Gowron comes to Deep Space Nine to honor Martok by inducting him into the Order of Kahless, and then announces that he would be taking control of the Klingon forces from Martok because it was time for him to " take a more active role in the war ".

However, it becomes clear that Gowron is simply worried about Martok getting too powerful politically, and intends to lower Martok's standing by sending him into battles that he cannot win.

Gowron ( Klingon-ghawran ) first appears in the episode " Reunion " as the main rival of Duras for the succession of the post of Klingon Chancellor K ' mpec, who suspects that one of the two had been poisoning him and appoints Captain Jean-Luc Picard as " Arbiter of Succession " to determine who will follow him.

Incensed by such a violation of Klingon honor codes, Worf disregards Martok's request and confronts Gowron, who dismisses Worf's accusation and adds that his " child's uniform "-- referring to his Starfleet uniform -- is the only thing saving him from his true fate: a duel to the death ( to wit, his own.

Meanwhile, Worf requests a leave of absence to visit his brother, Kurn, who controls a small fleet of Birds of Prey, and to urge him to back Gowron, as, once installed as the Leader, Gowron can reinstate their family name.

Chancellor Gowron, leader of the Klingon Empire, arrives at the station and asks Worf to join him in the invasion of Cardassia.

Exercising his right of vengeance, Worf fought and killed Duras allowing Duras's opponent Gowron to become chancellor ( TNG: " Reunion ").

Worf resigned from Starfleet to fight for Gowron and served on his brother's ship.

After a year of war between the Federation and the Klingons, Worf joined a team sent to investigate claims that Gowron was a changeling in disguise.

When Sisko eventually returned with a fleet of Federation ships to retake the station, Worf and Martok lobbied Gowron to send Klingon ships to join the battle.

In 2375, Worf became concerned with the leadership of Gowron.

Recognizing that Gowron was jeopardizing the entire war effort, Worf tried to convince Martok that he should challenge Gowron for the leadership.

After Martok refused, Worf decided to challenge Gowron himself, citing his faulty battle planning, his dishonorable conduct in trying to discredit Martok, and poor strategies at the later stages of the Dominion War.

After a brief battle, Worf killed Gowron ; by right he was proclaimed the new chancellor of the Klingon High Council.

A grateful Martok would later invite Worf ( who had earlier been stripped of his family name by Gowron ) to join Martok's house.

Worf tries to convince Martok to challenge Gowron, but he refuses.

Worf then kills Gowron himself, and rather than accept the title of Chancellor, gives it to Martok (" Tacking Into the Wind ").

Despite this, Gowron journeys to the station, hoping to get Worf to argue on behalf of the Klingons, even though Worf believes Gowron to be wrong.

" Gowron spits at Worf, but Worf simply replies, " Except my honor.

) In response, Worf simply removes the comm badge, places it on the table, and informs Gowron that he's now speaking as a member of the House of Martok.

Gowron takes the bait, but after a hard-fought duel, Worf kills Gowron.

In appreciation of his support, Chancellor Gowron restored Worf's honor ( TNG: " Redemption, Part I ") and gave Kurn a seat on the High Council.

When the Federation condemned the Klingon attack on Cardassia, Gowron banished Federation citizens from Klingon space, recalled their ambassadors and withdrew from the Khitomer Accords.

Picard urges Gowron to attack the Duras forces who are running low on supplies ; this will force the Romulans to enter the detection network and be caught by Starfleet.

In Part I, Gowron says that women cannot serve on the High Council, which is why the Duras sisters needed the male Toral as a proxy.

However, this is a retcon from " Reunion " when Gowron attempts to bribe K ' Ehleyr with a seat on the Council in return for a favorable word from her to Picard.

In Peter David's novel Imzadi II: Triangle, he is sprung from a Cardassian prison camp on Layzon 2 by Romulans led by Sela and forced into an assassination attempt on Klingon Emperor Kahless and Chancellor Gowron.

He is known to Star Trek fans most notably for his recurring role on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Chancellor Gowron, the leader of the Klingon Empire.

He has also guest starred in numerous television series, including Cheers, Knight Rider, Sledge Hammer !, MacGyver, In the Heat of the Night, and NYPD Blue, but perhaps most notably ( and certainly most repeatedly ) as Klingon Chancellor Gowron on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

The character Kavok is played by actor Robert O ' Reilly, who is famous for his role on the series as Gowron, chancellor of the Klingon High Council.

Gowron informs Picard that the House of Duras will challenge Gowron's position and may lead to a Klingon civil war.

Gowron agrees, knowing that association with the Romulans will ruin the Duras family's support and end the civil war.

By having the ambassador killed by Klingon disruptors, it will appear that his assassination was ordered by Gowron.

Gowron believed the Federation was unworthy of Worf's loyalty because they would not fight the Dominion.

Gowron also restores the honor of Worf's house during this episode's events.

" Redemption " is mainly composed of two interrelated stories: Worf's attempt to clear his family of dishonor, and a conflict between Gowron and the Duras sisters for leadership in the Klingon High Council.

Picard completes the rite and installs Gowron as Leader ; Gowron restores Worf's family honor.

Gowron declares Worf's family dishonored, and ejects his brother Kurn from the Klingon High Council.
