Amalric and Guy were sons of Hugh VIII of Lusignan, who had himself campaigned in the Holy Land in the 1160s.

Guy of Lusignan ( c. 1150 – 18 July 1194 ) was a Poitevin knight, son of Hugh VIII of the Lusignan dynasty.

Guy was a son of Lord Hugh VIII of Lusignan, in Poitou, at that time a part of the French duchy of Aquitaine, held by Queen Eleanor of England, her third son Richard, and her husband the English King Henry II.

On 18 July 880, Pope John VIII sent a letter to Guy II of Spoleto to seek peace, but the duke ignored him and invaded the Papal States.

Guy ( 1988 ) concludes this was one of the few executions of high personages under Henry VIII in which the accused was " almost certainly guilty.
