After absorbing Bond Cars in 1969, which had also been a maker of three-wheeler cars ( though in their case with Hillman Imp 875 cc rear engines ) Reliant used the Bond name for the iconic 1970s Bond Bug, a sporty three-wheeler designed by the Ogle designer Tom Karen.

This was the same body as used on the Hillman Minx.

Its engines and suspension were used in later models of the Paykan, the Iranian version of the Hillman Hunter.

In 1963, Rootes introduced the Hillman Imp, a compact rear engined saloon with an innovative all-aluminium OHC engine, based on a Coventry Climax engine design ( originally used for a fire pump ).

Although the Hillman company was acquired by Humber in 1929, Hillman was used as the primary marque of the Rootes Group from 1931, following its acquisition of Humber, until 1967, when Chrysler in turn took over Rootes.

Some were given different model names to justify trim differences ( Hillman GT, Hillman Estate ) and that from time to time all models were sold in some European markets under the Sunbeam marque ( Sunbeam Sceptre for instance ), and at other times used UK marque / model names.

The single-carburettor Sunbeam Alpine and twin-carburettor Sunbeam Rapier were only sold as fastback coupés, and were marketed with a strong sporting image – although it was eventually the Hillman Hunter which was used in long-distance rallying.

The new Ford cab was used again in April 1966 with a new version of the Carrimore Car Transporter ( 1138 ) which had been re-designed to carry up to six Corgi cars, and which also featured in Gift Set 41 along with six cars ; Ford Cortina Estate ( 440 ), Rover 2000 ( 252 ), Hillman Imp ( 251 ), Mini Cooper De-Luxe ( 249 ), Austin Seven ( 225 ) and Mini Cooper Monte Carlo 1966 ( 321 ).

The van's pressings were later used to create an estate, badged as a Hillman Husky, which came out in 1967.

There were Singer Gazelle and Sunbeam Rapier variants of all these Hillman Minx models, and the names were again used on derivatives in the later Rootes Arrow range.

The top-spec GL model featured four round headlights ( which was a big improvement over the rectangular ones from the Hillman Minx that were used on the DL and Super ), internal bonnet release, two-speed wipers, brushed nylon seat trim ( previously never used on British cars ), reclining front seats, and a round dial dashboard with extra instrumentation.

In South Africa, the car — like the larger Hunter assembled there — used Peugeot engines and was badged as a Dodge rather than a Hillman, while in New Zealand the car, assembled from CKD kits by importer Todd Motors ( later Mitsubishi Motors NZ ), was available initially in 4-door and, later, 5-door estate forms.

The Hillman Avenger name was not used, instead the cars were simply badged as Sunbeam and the engine size and trim level ( e. g. Sunbeam 1600 GLS ).

While Hillman's relationship with the Communist Party ultimately broke up in the conflict over whether to support Robert La Follette, Sr .' s candidacy for President on the Progressive Party ticket in 1924, Hillman never faced the sort of volcanic upsurge that nearly tore apart the International Ladies ' Garment Workers ' Union during this period and never undertook the wholesale purges that David Dubinsky and other leaders of the ILGWU used to stay in power.

One of his allies within the ACWA was Abraham Beckerman, a prominent member of the Socialist Party with close ties to The Forward, whom Hillman used to inflict strongarm tactics on his communist opponents within the union.

As in the case in World War I, Hillman used the influence of the federal government to advance both labor's social goals and its immediate organizing needs.

In its automotive guise as the FWMA it was less successful than the FWC when used by Lotus cars, but was eventually adapted by Rootes to provide the lightweight engine for the Hillman Imp.

The names were sourced from the corporate ancestor of Chrysler Europe, the Rootes Group, having been used on the Sunbeam Rapier and Hillman Minx.

The Avenger was a rebadged Hillman Avenger that used a Peugeot 1. 6L engine in order to satisfy local rules.

The 80 used the Hillman Minx based engine with ohv and the 90 utilised a modified version of the Humber Hawk with ohv.

Rapier running gear ( though not the estate chassis ) was also used in the Humber Sceptre, Hillman GT and Hillman Hunter GT models from the Arrow range.

Many constraints, such as very tight schedule, low budget and the need to use as many British components as possible, led to the decision to use the rear-wheel drive Hillman Avenger as the base for the new vehicle, rather than the more trendy front-wheel drive constructions of Chrysler's French subsidiary, Simca.

In 1936, he co-founded the American Labor Party along with David Dubinsky and Sidney Hillman, as a vehicle to organize support for the re-election that year of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and mayor Fiorello La Guardia among Socialists in the union movement.
