Reincarnation refers to an afterlife concept found among Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Rosicrucians, Spiritists, and Wiccans.

There are separate laws governing Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and followers of other religions.

As many as 12 million people Muslims leaving India for Pakistan, and Hindus and Sikhs opting to move to India from the new state of Pakistan which had been involved in the mass transfer of population between the two countries, and perhaps two million refugees had died in the violence that had accompanied the migrations in the borders of West Pakistan.

A small number of Sikhs, Hindus, and Christians are also found in the city.

Before the departure of British colonial rule and the subsequent independence of Pakistan, the population of the city included Hindus and Sikhs, but the community is still present numbering around 250, 000 residents.

Of these 2, 154, 695 were Muslims ( 74. 16 %), 689, 073 Hindus ( 23. 72 %), 25, 828 Sikhs, and 35, 047 Buddhists.

Of these, 2, 398, 320 ( 75. 94 %) were Muslims, 696, 830 ( 22. 06 %) Hindus, 31, 658 ( 1 %) Sikhs, and 36, 512 ( 1. 16 %) Buddhists.

In his last year, unhappy at the partition of India, Gandhi worked to stop the carnage between Muslims on the one hand and Hindus and Sikhs that raged in the border area between India and Pakistan.

Some Indian regions, such as Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka, have been strongly influenced by Jains and often the majority of the local Hindus of every denomination have also become vegetarian.

Beef is considered a taboo food in some cultures, especially in Indian culture, and hence is eschewed by Hindus and Jains ; however, Hinduism's scriptures indicate a recorded history of beef consumption, with the taboo arising at a later period due to the ascendancy of the cow in terms of importance to the farming communities of the time.

The term " nun " is applicable to Catholics – both eastern and western traditions – Orthodox Christians, Anglicans, Lutherans, Jains, Buddhists, Taoists, and Hindus.
