Gian Giacomo Medici, Il Medeghino, in a 16th-century engraving

They were scions of an impoverished though patrician family of Milan not connected with the Medici of Florence, in spite of the Medici heraldic palle appearing in the contemporary engraving ( illustration ): thus the nickname Il Medeghino, the " little Medici ".

Il Medeghino is buried in the Duomo of Milan.

His opera seria, Il prigionier superbo, contained the two act buffa intermezzo, La Serva Padrona ( The Servant Mistress, 28 August 1733 ), which became a very popular work in its own right.

A little later, in the television series entitled Il Mattatore ( Spotlight Chaser ) he obtained unexpected success and " Il Mattatore " became the nickname that accompanied him for the rest of his life.

Hector Berlioz, who also became a good friend, famously remarked, Il sait tout, mais il manque d ' inexpérience (" He knows everything, but lacks inexperience "

Bell used Michael Radford who later became noted for the films Nineteen Eighty-Four, White Mischief and Il Postino.

Harris followed this with a leading role in the Italian film, Michelangelo Antonioni's Il deserto rosso ( 1964 ), and he also won notice for his role in Sam Peckinpah's Major Dundee ( 1965 ), as an Irish immigrant who became a Confederate cavalryman during the Civil War.

As a result, he became known as " Il Piccolito " or " The Little Man.

National Fascist Party leader Benito Mussolini was identified by Fascists as Il Duce (" The Leader ") of the movement and became a reference to the dictator position of Head of Government and Duce of Fascism ( Capo del Governo e Duce del Fascismo ) of Italy was established in 1925 by Mussolini which he personally held until 1943.

He was a founding member of the Communist Party of Italy ( PCd ' I, later PCI ) and, after Gramsci was jailed by Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime, he became the senior leader of the PCd ' I until his death, for which he also directed Il Comunista.

On 26 December 1953 he became possibly the only conductor to conduct two operas on the same day, with a performance of Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel in the afternoon at Sadler's Wells and Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore at Covent Garden in the evening.

In Italy he became known as Il Boemo (" the Bohemian ") and also " Venatorini ", " the little hunter ", a literal translation of his name.

At first written in Neapolitan dialect, these works became " Italianized " with the operas of Scarlatti, Pergolesi ( La serva padrona ), Piccinni ( La Cecchina ), Cimarosa ( Il matrimonio segreto ), and then the great comic operas of Mozart and, later, Rossini.

In 1905 he began to work as editor of the newspaper La Voce Cattolica which was replaced in September 1906 by Il Trentino, and after a short time he became its editor.

In 1959, Berganza made her first appearances at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, which became one of her signature roles.

But the librettist became Verdi's lifelong friend and collaborator-" someone Verdi loved ", following Salvadore Cammarano as Verdi's main mid-career librettist and writing the libretti for Verdi's operas Ernani ( 1844 ), I due Foscari ( 1844 ), Attila ( 1846 ), Macbeth ( 1847 ), Il Corsaro ( 1848 ), Stiffelio ( 1850 ), Rigoletto ( 1851 ), La traviata ( 1853 ) Simon Boccanegra ( 1857 ), and La forza del destino ( 1862 ).

This famous portrait was the main inspiration of Luchino Visconti in creating the character played by Burt Lancaster in his film The Leopard ( film ) | Il Gattopardo.

Musicologists believe that, true to form, the music for Il Barbiere di Siviglia was composed in just under three weeks, although some of the themes in the famous overture were actually borrowed from two earlier Rossini operas, Aureliano in Palmira and Elisabetta, regina d ' Inghilterra.

Rossini's opera, now known as Il barbiere di Siviglia, is now acknowledged as Rossini's greatest work, while Paisiello's opera is only infrequently produced — a strange instance of poetical vengeance, since Paisiello himself had many years previously endeavoured to eclipse the fame of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi by resetting the libretto of his famous intermezzo, La serva padrona.

A significant 1958 Royal Opera House ( London ) production of Verdi's five-act Italian version of Don Carlos ( with Jon Vickers ) followed, along with a Macbeth in Spoleto in 1958 and a famous black-and-white Il trovatore with scenery and costumes by Filippo Sanjust at Covent Garden in 1964.

In 1917, Tofano invented, for a children's magazine, Il Corriere dei Piccoli, a famous character, Signor Bonaventura, whose adventures lasted for more than forty years.

On October 26, 2009, Bob Sapp captured the WWA Heavyweight title by defeating Lee Wang Pyo, a famous professional wrestler in Korea who was taught by legendary Korean professional wrestler Kim Il, at Olympic Fencing Gymnasium event.

Born in Salerno or Sorrento, he is best known today for Il Novellino, a collection of 50 " novelle " or short stories, each prefaced by a letter of dedication to a famous person and with an epilogue containing the " moral " of the story.

He is most famous for his only novel, Il Gattopardo ( first published posthumously in 1958, translated as The Leopard ), which is set in Sicily during the Risorgimento.

The serval was the symbol of the Tomasi family, princes of Lampedusa, whose best-known member was Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of one of the most famous Italian novels of the 20th century, Il Gattopardo.

His poems were set more often by madrigal composers than the work of any other poet, even Tasso, who came in a close second ; the prolific madrigal composer Philippe de Monte even named one of his collections Il pastor fido after Guarini's most famous work.

The most famous are Il Postino and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

In 1961 he published the mystery Il giorno della civetta ( The Day of the Owl ), one of his most famous novels, and in 1963, the historical novel Il consiglio d ' Egitto ( The Council of Egypt ), set in 18th-century Palermo.

They also sang together in Venice the following year in Michelangelo Gasparini's Il Lamano, and in Il pentimento generoso by Stefano Andrea Fiorè, in which the redoubtable duo were joined by the famous castrato Antonio Maria Bernacchi.
