Ferdinand was a keen musician, and his wife, Barbara of Portugal, more or less a musical fanatic ( in 1728 she had appointed Domenico Scarlatti as her harpsichord teacher ; the musicologist Ralph Kirkpatrick acknowledges Farinelli's correspondence as providing " most of the direct information about Scarlatti that has transmitted itself to our day ").

Captain Lytle ( 1728 – 97 ) gave land to his daughter Anne for a wedding gift on which she and her husband, Judge John Rowan, built the Federal Hill Mansion, in Bardstown, Kentucky, which, according to tradition, inspired the song My Old Kentucky Home.

On 19 June 1734, she married Jean Baptiste Louis, marquis de La Tournelle ( born 1728 ).

The first, most important and successful was The Beggar's Opera of 1728, with a libretto by John Gay and music arranged by John Christopher Pepusch, both of whom probably influenced by Parisian vaudeville and the burlesques and musical plays of Thomas D ' Urfey ( 1653 – 1723 ), a number of whose collected ballads they used in their work.
