Williamson extended his influence on the young British blues rockers in the 1960s, recording with Eric Clapton and The Yardbirds and appearing on live British television.

During the early 1980s the FujiGen guitar factory also produced most of the Roland guitar synthesizers, including the Stratocaster-style Roland G-505, the twin-humbucker Roland G-202 ( endorsed by Eric Clapton, Dean Brown, Jeff Baxter, Yannis Spathas, Steve Howe, Mike Rutherford, Andy Summers and Steve Hackett ) and the Ibanez X-ING IMG-2010.

Guitarists in the fusion realm fused the post-bop harmonic and melodic language of musicians such as John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman, and Miles Davis with a hard-edged ( and usually very loud ) rock tone created by iconic guitarists such as Cream's Eric Clapton who'd redefined the sound of the guitar for those unfamiliar with the black blues players of Chicago and, before that, the Delta region of the Mississippi upon whom his style was based.

During his adolescent years, he was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.

He is credited by many rock musicians as an important influence ; Eric Clapton has called Johnson " the most important blues singer that ever lived.

Although this " purist " interest in the blues would have an impact on major British rock musicians, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Green and Jimmy Page, other artists adopted an interest in a wider range of rhythm and blues styles.

He also wrote " Technopolis " ( 1979 ), which contributed to the development of techno, and the international hit " Behind the Mask " ( 1978 ), a synthpop song for which he sang the vocals through a vocoder and which would later be covered by a number of international artists, including Michael Jackson and Eric Clapton.

In addition to her own work, Crow has performed with The Rolling Stones and has sung duets with Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Luciano Pavarotti, Willie Nelson, Kid Rock, Tony Bennet and Sting among others.

During this period, she discussed in interviews having gone through a deep depression, and there was speculation about a brief affair with Eric Clapton.

The record featured Crow singing many of her hit singles with new musical spins and guest appearances by many other musicians including Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks, the Dixie Chicks, Keith Richards, and Eric Clapton.

Both Big Pink and The Band also influenced their musical contemporaries, with both Eric Clapton and George Harrison citing the Band as a major influence on their musical direction in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Other guests they admired ( and in most cases had worked with before ) included Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood, Paul Butterfield, and Neil Diamond.

The Band released two more albums after Jericho: High on the Hog ( 1996 ) and Jubilation ( 1998 ), the latter of which included guest appearances by Eric Clapton and John Hiatt.

The Band has influenced numerous bands, songwriters, and performers, from the Grateful Dead and The Beatles to Eric Clapton, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Costello, Elton John, and Phish.

In addition to Lennon and Ono, this first incarnation of the group consisted of guitarist Eric Clapton, bass player Klaus Voormann, and drummer Alan White.

Both versions feature Eric Clapton on guitar.

During her career, Ono has collaborated with a diverse group of artists and musicians including John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann, Cornelius ( Keigo Oyamada, Naoki Shimizu and Yoko Araki ), Frank Zappa, Sean Lennon, Yuka Honda, Jim Keltner, Earl Slick, Peaches, John Cage, David Tudor, George Maciunas, Ornette Coleman, Charlotte Moorman, George Brecht, Jackson Mac Low, Jonas Mekas, Fred DeAsis, Yvonne Rainer, La Monte Young, Richard Maxfield, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Yo La Tengo, and Andy Warhol ( in 1987 Ono was one of the speakers at Warhol's funeral ).

In a 2006 interview with Gibson. com's Backstage Pass Haynes explains his early influences: " When I first started — chronologically speaking — Hendrix and Clapton and Johnny Winter were the first three people I got turned on to.

Clapton wanted management to hang the guitar over his regular seat in order to lay claim to that spot, and they obliged.

A famous graffito of the 20th century was the inscription in the London subway reading " Clapton is God ".

McLaughlin was a master innovator, incorporating hard jazz with the new sounds of Clapton, Hendrix, Beck and others.

Each was impressed with the other's playing abilities, prompting Baker to ask Clapton to join his new, then-unnamed group.

Clapton immediately agreed, on the condition that Baker hire Bruce as the group's bassist ; according to Clapton, Baker was so surprised at the suggestion that he almost crashed the car.

The band was named " Cream ", as Clapton, Bruce, and Baker were already considered the " cream of the crop " amongst blues and jazz musicians in the exploding British music scene.

Of the trio, Clapton had the biggest reputation in England ; however, he was all but unknown in the United States, having left The Yardbirds before " For Your Love " hit the American Top Ten.

While Clapton was shy about singing, he occasionally harmonised with Bruce and, in time, took lead vocals on some Cream tunes including " Four Until Late ", " Strange Brew ", " World of Pain ", " Outside Woman Blues ", " Anyone for Tennis ", " Crossroads ", and " Badge ".

It featured six songs: three live recordings dating from a concert at The Forum in Los Angeles, California, on 19 October, and three new studio recordings ( including " Badge ", which was written by Clapton and George Harrison, who also played rhythm guitar as " L ' Angelo Misterioso ").

Blind Faith was formed immediately after the demise of Cream, following an attempt by Clapton to recruit Steve Winwood into the band in the hope that he would help act as a buffer between Bruce and Baker.

Although the three musicians chose not to speak publicly about the shows, Clapton would later state that he had become more " generous " in regard to his past, and that the physical health of Bruce and Baker was a major factor: Bruce had recently undergone a liver transplant for liver cancer, and had almost lost his life, while Baker had severe arthritis.

However, this story was rebutted by both Clapton and Baker, first by Clapton in a Times article from April 2006.

He called in Clapton to perform the lead guitar on the song and it was decided to cut one verse entirely and add another guitar solo towards the end of the song.

The romance theme was later given lyrics, and became the pop standard " Smile ", first recorded by Nat King Cole and later covered by artists as Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Trini Lopez, Eric Clapton, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Michael Bublé, Petula Clark, Liberace, Judy Garland, Madeleine Peyroux, Plácido Domingo and Dionne Warwick, Michael Jackson and Robert Downey, Jr. ( included on the soundtrack for the film Chaplin ).

Clapton was not the only outside musician to sit in on the sessions.

At the end of the year Lindsay-Hogg again collaborated with the Stones on their most ambitious project to date, the feature-length performance film The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, which also featured John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton and rising UK band Jethro Tull, but unfortunately the film was not released until 1996 because the group at the time felt that their own performances had been below par.

This was the result of an acrimonious split in the congregation of the Lower Clapton meeting.
