Issachar / Yissachar () was, according to the Book of Genesis, a son of Jacob and Leah ( the fifth son of Leah, and ninth son of Jacob ), and the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Issachar ; however some Biblical scholars view this as postdiction, an eponymous metaphor providing an aetiology of the connectedness of the tribe to others in the Israelite confederation.

According to the Book of Genesis, Reuben or Re ' uven (, ) was the first and eldest son of Jacob with Leah.

Genesis 29: 35 relates that Judah's mother — the matriarch Leah — named him Yehudah ( i. e. " Judah ") because she wanted to " praise God " for giving birth to so many sons: " She said, ' This time let me praise ( odeh אודה ) God ( יהוה ),' and named the child Judah ( Yehudah יהודה )", thus combining " praise " and " God " into one new name.

In Genesis 29, Leah is seen as being Jacob's first wife and the mother of seven of his children.

Zebulun ( also Zebulon, Zabulon or Zaboules ; or or, Tiberian Hebrew, Standard Hebrew, commonly in Israel ) was, according to the Books of Genesis and Numbers, the sixth son of Jacob and Leah, and the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Zebulun.
