Java is a programming language originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems ( which has since merged into Oracle Corporation ) and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems ' Java platform.

The original and reference implementation Java compilers, virtual machines, and class libraries were developed by Sun from 1995.

As of May 2007, in compliance with the specifications of the Java Community Process, Sun relicensed most of its Java technologies under the GNU General Public License.

Others have also developed alternative implementations of these Sun technologies, such as the GNU Compiler for Java and GNU Classpath.

Sun Microsystems released the first public implementation as Java 1. 0 in 1995.

In 2006, for marketing purposes, Sun renamed new J2 versions as Java EE, Java ME, and Java SE, respectively.

In 1997, Sun Microsystems approached the ISO / IEC JTC1 standards body and later the Ecma International to formalize Java, but it soon withdrew from the process.

At one time, Sun made most of its Java implementations available without charge, despite their proprietary software status.

Sun generated revenue from Java through the selling of licenses for specialized products such as the Java Enterprise System.

On November 13, 2006, Sun released much of Java as free and open source software, ( FOSS ), under the terms of the GNU General Public License ( GPL ).

Microsoft Visual Studio and Sun Java also provide programming tools for developing survey instruments on the handheld.

The EJB specification was originally developed in 1997 by IBM and later adopted by Sun Microsystems ( EJB 1. 0 and 1. 1 ) in 1999 and enhanced under the Java Community Process as JSR 19 ( EJB 2. 0 ), JSR 153 ( EJB 2. 1 ), JSR 220 ( EJB 3. 0 ) and JSR 318 ( EJB 3. 1 ).

Asteroids ( from Greek ἀστεροειδής-asteroeidēs, " star-like ", from " star " and " like, in form ") are a class of small Solar System bodies in orbit around the Sun.

These terms have historically been applied to any astronomical object orbiting the Sun that did not show the disk of a planet and was not observed to have the characteristics of an active comet, but as small objects in the outer Solar System were discovered, their volatile-based surfaces were found to more closely resemble comets, and so were often distinguished from traditional asteroids.

Novell provided desktop manager components and scalable systems technologies from UNIX System V. Sun contributed its ToolTalk application interaction framework and a port of its DeskSet productivity tools, including mail and calendar clients, from its OpenWindows environment.

It remains within the Solar System, orbiting the Sun.

Due to the movement of the Earth around the Earth-Moon barycenter, the apparent path of the Sun wobbles slightly, with a period of about one month ; due to perturbations by the other planets of the Solar System, the Earth-Moon barycenter wobbles slightly around a mean position in a complex fashion.

Also, the Earth does not actually orbit the Sun, but the Solar System barycenter, therefore an alternate definition of the ecliptic is the mean plane of the orbit of Earth-Moon barycenter around the Solar System barycenter.

The Kuiper belt (, rhyming with " piper " and " viper "), sometimes called the Edgeworth – Kuiper belt, is a region of the Solar System beyond the planets extending from the orbit of Neptune ( at 30 AU ) to approximately 50 AU from the Sun.

The reason for neon's relative scarcity on Earth and the inner ( terrestrial ) planets, is that neon forms no compounds to fix it to solids, and is highly volatile, therefore escaping from the planetesimals under the warmth of the newly-ignited Sun in the early Solar System.

In 1950, the idea was independently revived by Dutch astronomer Jan Hendrik Oort as a means to resolve a paradox: over the course of the Solar System's existence, the orbits of comets are unstable ; eventually, dynamics dictate that a comet must either collide with the Sun or a planet, or else be ejected from the Solar System by planetary perturbations.

In the charted regions of the Solar System, these effects are negligible compared to the gravity of the Sun.

Astronomers use the principle of parallax to measure distances to celestial objects including to the Moon, the Sun, and to stars beyond the Solar System.

In the 16th century, Nicolaus Copernicus advanced the ideas of heliocentrism, recognizing the Sun as the centre of the Solar System.

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System

Different bodies of the Solar System receive light of an intensity inversely proportional to the square of their distance from Sun.

A trans-Neptunian object ( TNO ; also written transneptunian object ) is any object in the Solar System that orbits the Sun at a greater average distance ( semi-major axis ) than Neptune.

Up to version 3. 7 of vi, created in October, 1981, UC Berkeley was the development home for vi, but with Bill Joy's departure in early 1982, to join Sun Microsystems, and AT & T's UNIX System V ( January, 1983 ) adopting vi, changes to the vi codebase happened more slowly and in a more dispersed and mutually incompatible ways.

He also comes with a lot of other ideas about the Solar System but many of them are flawed because he considers the Earth to be the center of the universe, not the Sun.

He later left Sun and became one of the founders of the Open Directory Project.

In comparing Oracle Internet Directory with its competitors, Oracle Corporation stresses that it uses as its foundation an Oracle database ; whereas many competing products ( such as Sun Directory and Novell eDirectory ) do not rely on an enterprise-strength relational database, but instead on embedded database engines similar to Berkeley DB.

Sun sold and developed the Netscape Directory Server under the name JES / SunOne Directory Server, now an Oracle product since the takeover of Sun by Oracle.
