These suspicions are later borne out in " Utopia " ( 2007 ), when the Tenth Doctor discovers that the renegade Time Lord the Master has survived the Time War and has been living in human form in the year 100 trillion, at the end of the material universe, a point so far forward in time that no Time Lord has ever travelled there.

" Utopia " presented, for the first time on-screen, a circumstance in which a character travels on the exterior of the TARDIS during a flight, when Jack Harkness was somehow able to grab hold of the TARDIS as it began to dematerialise and hold on to its destination ; the episode does establish, however, that a normal person would not have survived the trip, as Harkness is " killed " by the experience, but due to his immortality, soon revives.

In the episodes " Boom Town " and " Utopia ", the TARDIS needed to " refuel " by absorbing energy from a " scar " left by a closed space / time rift, implying that it is not powered entirely by the Eye at this time.

But to return to the main line of our inquiry, it is doubtful that Utopia is still widely read because More was medieval or even because he was a martyr -- indeed, it is likely that these days many who read Utopia with interest do not even know that its author was a martyr.

The medieval was the most important to Chambers because he sought to place Thomas More, the author of Utopia, in some intelligible relation with St. Thomas More, the martyr.
