" According to Islamic tradition ( in Saḥīḥ al-Bukhāri ), Gog and Magog are human beings, and the city mentioned in sura 21 is Jerusalem.

Sura Al-Anbiya (, Sūratu al-Anbiyā, " The Prophets ") is the 21st sura ( or chapter ) of the Qur ' an with 112 ayat.

The sura preaches the infinite Power of Allah and states that those who reject warnings of Prophets will be companions of the Blazing Fire, meaning they will be punished in Hell.

Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj Nishapuri says in his Sahih al-Bukhari, that a certain man ( during the time of Muhammad ), was reciting the sura al-Kahf from the Quran by his tethered horse, and as he was reciting, a cloud engulfed him, which was encircling and descending, whose sight caused his horse to jump and move, and so when morning came he went to Muhammad and informed him of what occurred, to which Muhammad replied that it was the Sakinah that descended for the Quran.

Bakkah is mentioned in sura 3 ( Al-i-Imran ), ayah 96 of the Qur ' an, where it is said to be the site of the first place of worship.

In sura 17 ( Al-Isra ), ayah 3, God states: " Verily he was a devotee most grateful.

Some suras were named according to their central theme, such as Al-Fatiha ( The Opener ) and Yusuf ( Joseph ), and some were named for the first word at the beginning of the sura, such as Qaf, Ya Sin, and ar-Rahman.

Some suras were also named according to a unique story or topic within the sura, such as al-Baqara ( The Cow ), An-Nur ( The Light ), while other suras were named according to a unique word used in them, such as Az-Zukhruf ( The Ornaments of Gold ), Al-Hadid ( The Iron ), and Al-Ma ' un ( The Small Kindness ).

When accused by Sulla ( to whom he had been quaestor in 81 BC ) of having squandered the public money, he refused to render any account, but insolently held out the calf of his leg ( sura ), on which part of the person boys were punished when they made mistakes in playing ball, akin to inviting a slap on the wrist.

The most commonly told story is how in the 7th century, Al-Buraq carried the Islamic prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem and back during the Isra and Mi ' raj or " Night Journey ", which is the title of one of the chapters ( sura ), Al-Isra, of the Qur ' an.

The term chapter is sometimes avoided, as the suras are of unequal length ; the shortest sura ( Al-Kawthar ) has only three ayat ( verses ) while the longest ( Al-Baqara ) contains 286 ayat.

Of the 114 suras in the Quran, 86 are classified as Meccan while 28 are Medinan-this classification is only approximate as regards location of revelation-in fact, any sura revealed post-Hijrah is termed Medinan and any revealed before that event is termed as Meccan.

The word " sura " is sometimes roughly translated as " chapter " in English, but this is not universally supported.

For example, several hadith recommend reciting sura Al-Fatiha when someone is ill.

Several are known by multiple names: sura Al-Masadd ( The Palm Fibre ) is also known as al-Lahab ( The Flame ).

It is also, paradoxically, admired for its layers of metaphor as well as its clarity, a feature it mentions itself in sura 16: 103.

According to Islam, the earliest mention of the name of God is found in the Koran sura 2, The Cow: " When your Lord said to the angels: ' I am placing on the earth one that shall rule as My deputy ,' they replied: ' Will You put there one that will do evil and shed blood, when we have for so long sung Your praises and sanctified Your Name?

Al-Anfal is the eighth sura or chapter of the Qur ' an which explains the triumph of 319 followers of the new Muslim faith over almost 900 pagans at the battle of Badr in 624 AD.

The Qur ' an only circumstantially refers to the Deuteronomy events in sura 5 ( Al-Ma ' ida ), ayah 22-26, where Moses ' debates with the Israelites near Jericho is mentioned.
