After a false start involving Berman which would have set the film in a time period after the events of Enterprise but before TOS, Paramount recruited a new producing and writing team, which ultimately led to the release of a new Star Trek film in May 2009.
In Gene Roddenberry's original Star Trek pitch, the starship is described as a " United Space Ship ," and in two episodes of the original series ( TOS ), Kirk refers to the " United Space Ship Enterprise ".
