The Algerian War of Independence ( 1954 – 62 ) was a highly traumatic conflict for the Foreign Legion.

His diplomatic career started in December 1918, when he was part of the delegation to Sweden as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, asking for support in the War of Independence.

Ante Gotovina ( born 12 October 1955 ) is a former Senior Corporal ( Caporal Chef ) of the French Foreign Legion and former Lieutenant General ( general pukovnik ) of the Croatian Army who served in the Croatian War for Independence.

Serving as Foreign Affairs Minister in the Ion Brătianu cabinet ( spring-summer 1876, and again from April 1877 to November 1878 ), Mihail Kogălniceanu was responsible for Romania entering the War of 1877-1878 on the Russian side, which led the country to proclaim its independence ( see Romanian War of Independence ).

Halldór took over as Prime Minister on 15 September 2004, succeeding Independence Party leader Davíð Oddsson, while Davíð replaced Halldór as Foreign Minister.

He served as the first Minister of Finance of Trinidad and Tobago after Independence and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The movements were: the Estonian Democratic Labour Party, the Estonian Social Democratic Independence Party, the Russian Social Democratic Party of Estonia and the Estonian Socialist Party's Foreign Association ( successor of Estonian Socialist Workers Party in exile ).

Paul-Marie Coûteaux ( born 31 July 1956 in Paris ) is the son of André Couteaux and a French politician, writer, and former Member of the European Parliament for Ile-de-France with the Mouvement pour la France, Member of the Bureau of the Independence and Democracy and sits on the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.

On 24 March 1928, the Abadía Administration under Manuel Esguerra, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of Colombia to Managua, negotiated and signed the Esguerra-Bárcenas Treaty with José Bárcenas Meneses, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, in which Nicaragua recognized the sovereignty of Colombia over the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina and by which Colombia ceded claims over the Mosquito Coast, both territories that belonged to Colombia uti possidetis juris following Independence from Spain.

Her son Robert R. Livingston became the estate's most prominent resident, serving as a member of the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and negotiator of the Louisiana Purchase.

In 1850 the British Foreign Secretary Lord Palmerston, a philhellene and supporter of the Greek War of Independence of 1828-1829, took decisive action in support of Pacifico by sending a Royal Navy squadron into the Aegean to seize Greek ships and property equal to the value of Pacifico's claims, which had been decided by British courts, and were exorbitantly high.

Francis Hopkinson ( September 21, 1737 – May 9, 1791 ), an American author, was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence as a delegate from New Jersey.

He resigned his crown-appointed positions in 1776 and, on June 22, went on to represent New Jersey in the Second Continental Congress where he signed the Declaration of Independence.

Probably the most famous Irishman ever to reside in Mexico is the Wexfordman William Lamport, better known to most Mexicans as Guillen de Lampart, precursor of the Independence movement and author of the first proclamation of independence in the New World.
