The Behistun Inscription ( also Bistun or Bisutun, Modern Persian: بیستون < Old Persian: Bagastana, meaning " the place of god ") is a multi-lingual inscription located on Mount Behistun in the Kermanshah Province of Iran, near the city of Kermanshah in western Iran.

The first European to visit Western Australia was a Dutch explorer, Dirk Hartog who on 25 October 1616 landed at what is now known as Cape Inscription, Dirk Hartog Island.

" Another view notes that on the Behistun Inscription, " Cyaxares " is a family name, and thus considers the description as literal, viewing Astyages as an intermediate ruler wrongly placed in the family line in the Greek sources.

The oldest inscriptions in Malay, Kedukan Bukit Inscription, dating from the end of the 7th century AD, were found on the banks of the River Tatang, a tributary of the River Musi, South Sumatra.

The earliest known stone inscription in the Old Malay language was found in Sumatra, written in Pallava variant of Grantha script and dates back to 7th century – known as Kedukan Bukit Inscription, it was discovered by the Dutchman M. Batenburg on 29 November 1920, at Kedukan Bukit, South Sumatra, on the banks of the River Tatang, a tributary of the River Musi.

Rawlinson's published works include four volumes of cuneiform inscriptions, published under his direction between 1870 and 1884 by the trustees of the British Museum ; The Persian Cuneiform Inscription at Behistun ( 1846 – 51 ) and Outline of the History of Assyria ( 1852 ), both reprinted from the Asiatic Society's journals ; A Commentary on the Cuneiform Inscriptions of Babylon and Assyria ( 1850 ); Notes on the Early History of Babylonia ( 1854 ); and England and Russia in the East ( 1875 ).

Among the most important inscriptions are Silajaruek Pho Khun Ramkhamhaeng ( Stone Inscription of King Ramkhamhaeng ), Silajaruek Wat Srichum ( an account on history of the region itself and of Srilanka ), and Silajaruek Wat Pamamuang ( a Politico-Religious record of King Loethai ).

Soon after the appearance of Burnouf's Commentaire sur le Yacna ( 1833 ), Lassen also directed his attention to the Zend language, and to Iranian studies generally ; and in Die altpersischen Keilinschriften von Persepolis ( 1836 ) he first made known the true character of the Old Persian cuneiform inscriptions, thereby anticipating, by one month, Burnouf's Mémoire on the same subject, while Sir Henry Rawlinson's famous memoir on the Behistun Inscription, though drawn up in Persia, independently of contemporaneous European research, at about the same time, did not reach the Royal Asiatic Society until three years later.

Uppland Runic Inscription 53 | U 53, a fragment of a runestone built into a wall in the intersection of Prästgatan and Kåkbrinken, is believed to have been brought from an Iron age settlement not far from today's old town.

This is the Torsätra runestone ( Uppland Runic Inscription 614 | U 614 ) which was raised in memory of one of the Swedish king's tribute collectors who fell ill and died during a trip to Gotland.
