Interstate 65 is the primary north – south freeway through the city leading between Birmingham and Huntsville to the north and Mobile to the south.

Decades later on, Shelby County was crossed by Interstate Highway 65.

Interstate 65 and U. S. Highway 31 have long provided stong connections between Shelby county and the more populous Jefferson County directly to its north.

The route turns south after Conway and enters North Little Rock, which brings high volume interchanges with Interstate 430, I-30 / US 65 / US 67 / US 167, and Interstate 440 / AR 440.

Due to the thinly-populated nature of this portion of the state, it is one of the select places in North Carolina where the speed limit on Interstate Highways exceeds 65 mph, as Interstate 77 north of Statesville has a speed limit of 70 mph.

The completion of Interstate 65 and Green River Parkway ( currently the William H. Natcher Parkway ) in the 1960s and 1970s, brought an industrial boom that transformed the farm-oriented county into a more urban one.

On September 8, a four-mile stretch on K-10 between the Edgerton Road exit and the DeSoto interchange at former K-285 ( now Lexington Avenue ) was closed for shooting highway scenes representing a mass exodus on Interstate 70.

In 1994, the portion of U. S. Route 79 in Clarksville, Tennessee between the Interstate 24 exit 4 in Clarksville to the Red River ( Lynnwood-Tarpley ) bridge near the Kraft Street intersection was renamed to honor Wilma Rudolph.

The final exit on Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania is for Morgan Hill Road, which goes to Pennsylvania Route 611 and Easton.

In the town of Annandale, US 22 leaves Interstate 78 at exit 18.

At exit 29, Interstate 287, U. S. Route 202 and U. S. Route 206 interchange with I-78 in Bedminster.

There have been discussions in Darien of placing a traffic signal at the intersection of GA-251 and US-17, as well as at the Interstate 95 exit ramps on GA-251, as traffic flow has increased in Darien in recent years.

Here, the route has a southbound exit and northbound entrance with County Route 621 ( Valley Road ) before becoming an eight-lane road and interchanging with Interstate 80, where the speed limit drops to.

The San Andreas fault runs through the region, turning southeast on the west side of Interstate 5, just southwest of the Frazier Park exit in what is known as the Big Bend of the San Andreas.
