Isaiah 52: 13 – 53: 12, the fourth of the " Suffering Servant " songs, was interpreted by the earliest Christians as a prophecy of the death and exaltation of Jesus, a role which Jesus himself seems to have accepted ( Luke 4: 17 – 21 ).

That Job should suffer and Socrates and Jesus die while the wicked prosper, then seems unjust.

His academic reputation spread so quickly that on the foundation in 1571 of Jesus College, Oxford he was named in the charter as one of the founding scholars " without his privity " ( Isaacson, 1650 ); his connection with the college seems to have been purely notional, however.

As one commentator notes, " Mary seems to have been the only one who was sensitive to the impending death of Jesus and who was willing to give a material expression of her esteem for him.

At Matthew 5: 40 Jesus seems to say that if you're sued, you should not fight, but rather give up more than was asked for.

For instance, while Jesus seems to forbid all oaths, Paul is shown using them at least twice ; thus the prohibition in the Sermon may seem to have some exceptions ; though in fairness to Paul, it should be pointed out that he was not present at the Sermon on the Mount and may not have been aware of all of its teachings.

Mark's Jesus often seems more human than Matthew's.

In John, Jesus seems to confirm the fact of his kingship, although immediately explaining, that " kingdom not of this world "; of far greater importance for the followers of Christ is his own definition of the goal of his ministry on earth at the time.

Many modern scholars also reject this conclusion, as the statement about Jesus being silent " as if in no pain " seems to be based on Isaiah's description of the suffering servant, " as a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.

Heselton notes that " there is hardly a mention of Jesus and it seems as if her deepest spiritual experiences come from nature and, particularly, her garden.

A. O. Scott, in The New York Times, said, "' The Passion of the Christ ' is so relentlessly focused on the savagery of Jesus ' final hours that this film seems to arise less from love than from wrath, and to succeed more in assaulting the spirit than in uplifting it.

In this case, the author seems to aim to demonstrate that Jewish understanding of the Mosaic legislation ( Torah ) is completely incorrect and can now be considered superseded, since in the author's view the Jewish scriptures foreshadowed Jesus and Christianity when rightly understood.

Although Matthew 28: 19 seems to mandate a Trinitarian formula for baptism, Oneness theology avows that the " name " in that verse is actually singular and refers to Jesus, whose name they believe to be that of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The most popular and briefest was " Jesus is Lord " found in ; and probably in the baptisms referred to in Acts 8: 16 ; 19: 5 and 1 Cor 6: 11 since their being described as " in the name of the Lord Jesus " certainly seems to imply that " the formula ' Jesus is Lord ' had a place in the rite ".

Stations 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9 are not specifically attested to in the gospels ( in particular, no evidence exists of station 6 ever being known before medieval times ) and Station 13 ( representing Jesus's body being taken down off the cross and laid in the arms of His mother Mary ) seems to embellish the gospels ' record, which states that Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus down from the cross and buried him.

The identity of Adam and Jesus seems to have been taught in the original form of the Clementine writings.

The Son of Man as one destined to suffer seems to be, according to some, a Christian invention that does not go back to Jesus, and it is not clear whether Jesus meant himself when he spoke of the divine judge.

When that fear has been removed by faith in Jesus Christ, when we know that He is our Savior, that He has paid our debt with His blood, that He has met the demands of God's justice and thus has turned His wrath away -- when we know that, we have peace with God in our hearts ; ;

Billy approves them, Billy condones them, Billy recommends them .... I think that Dr. Graham is doing more harm in the cause of Jesus Christ than any living man ; that he is leading foolish and untaught Christians, simple people that do not know the Word of God, into disobedience to the Word of God.

In John 14: 31 Jesus explains that his sacrifice was performed so: " that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do.

When Jesus told Lazarus ’ sister, Martha, that Lazarus would rise again, she replied, " I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day ". 11: 24 Also, one of the two main branches of the Jewish religious establishment, the Pharisees, believed in and taught the future resurrection of the body. Acts 23: 1-8

A straightforward reading of,, and suggests that Jesus even forbids any hierarchy of relationships in Christian relationships: " You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.

They also agreed that " we shall by all means labor to keep off from us all such as are contrary minded, and receive only such unto us as may be probably of one heart with us, such as that we either know or may well and truly be informed to walk in a peaceable conversation with all meekness of spirit, for the edification of each other in the knowledge and faith of the Lord Jesus …" The covenant also stipulated that if differences were to arise between townsmen, they would seek arbitration for resolution and each would pay his fair share for the common good.

“ And that Christ being Lord, and God the Son of God, and appearing formerly in power as Man, and Angel, and in the glory of fire as at the bush, so also was manifested at the judgment executed on Sodom, has been demonstrated fully by what has been said .” Then I repeated once more all that I had previously quoted from Exodus, about the vision in the bush, and the naming of Joshua ( Jesus ), and continued: “ And do not suppose, sirs, that I am speaking superfluously when I repeat these words frequently: but it is because I know that some wish to anticipate these remarks, and to say that the power sent from the Father of all which appeared to Moses, or to Abraham, or to Jacob, is called an Angel because He came to men ( for by Him the commands of the Father have been proclaimed to men ); is called Glory, because He appears in a vision sometimes that cannot be borne ; is called a Man, and a human being, because He appears arrayed in such forms as the Father pleases ; and they call Him the Word, because He carries tidings from the Father to men: but maintain that this power is indivisible and inseparable from the Father, just as they say that the light of the sun on earth is indivisible and inseparable from the sun in the heavens ; as when it sinks, the light sinks along with it ; so the Father, when He chooses, say they, causes His power to spring forth, and when He chooses, He makes it return to Himself.

Many scholars accept this meaning, pointing out that it indicates that Judas was from the start " the representative Jew " who betrayed Jesus in the Gospel dramatization of events, and we may not have in him an actual person or perhaps only do not know his actual name.

was " Jesus I know, and Paul I know ; but who are ye?

Saint Bridget prayed for a long time to know how many blows Jesus Christ suffered during His terrible Passion.

To see ( Jesus ) with the heart is to know, in the long run, that his life is the only life worth living.

Despite the listener's possible aversion to Church because of experiences from their past, I wanted them to know that I was on their side ; a believer understanding their non-belief, but encouraging them to give their life to Jesus.
