The second of the so-called J-missions, the mission was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly.

John Young and Charles Duke spent 71 hours — just under three days — on the lunar surface, during which they conducted three extra-vehicular activities, or moonwalks, totaling 20 hours and 14 minutes.

John Young, a captain in the United States Navy, had flown on three spaceflights prior to Apollo 16: Gemini 3, Gemini 10 and Apollo 10, which orbited the Moon.

During the second half of the day, John Young and Charlie Duke again entered the Lunar Module to power it up and check its systems, as well as perform housekeeping tasks in preparation for lunar landing.

After the pair donned and pressurized their spacesuits and depressurized the Lunar Module cabin, John Young climbed out onto the " porch " of the LM, a small platform above the ladder.

A colony there would be of great assistance to the British Navy in facilitating attacks on the Spanish possessions in Chile and Peru, as Banks's collaborators, James Matra, Captain Sir George Young and Sir John Call pointed out in written proposals on the subject.

At the same time the non-album single " John, I ’ m Only Dancing ", and " All the Young Dudes ", a song he wrote and produced for Mott the Hoople, became UK hits.

Young Americans yielded Bowie's first US number one, " Fame ", co-written with John Lennon, who contributed backing vocals, and Carlos Alomar.

Young and Innocent ( U. S. title: The Girl Was Young ) is a 1937 British film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Nova Pilbeam, Derrick De Marney and John Longden.

Non-government organizations like Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps, Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps and St. John Ambulance all follow the same military salutes due to their ties with the British Armed Forces.

In 2004, while in Germany, JBL ( John Bradshaw Layfield ) used Nazi salutes and was booed heavily by the crowd.

This, along with a dexterity issue in John Young's spacesuit and fluctuations in the capacity of the Lunar Module batteries, required investigation and trouble-shooting.

The term lunatic was also used by supporters of John Harrison and his marine chronometer method of determining longitude to refer to proponents of the Method of Lunar Distances, advanced by Astronomer Royal Nevil Maskelyne.

Gold won the John Frederick Lewis Prize from the American Philosophical Society in 1972 for his paper " The Nature of the Lunar Surface: Recent Evidence " and the Humboldt Prize from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 1979.

Duke served as Lunar Module pilot of Apollo 16 in 1972 where he and John W. Young landed at the Descartes Highlands and conducted three EVAs, making Duke the tenth person to walk upon the surface of the Moon.

The Lunar Society included industrialists such as Samuel Galton, Jr. as well as intellectuals such as Erasmus Darwin and Joseph Priestley ; scientific lecturers such as John Warltire and Adam Walker communicated basic Newtonian principles widely to the town's manufacturing classes ; and men such as Matthew Boulton, James Keir, James Watt and John Roebuck were simultaneously highly regarded both as scientists and as technologists, and in some cases also as businessmen.

Its first year saw the launch of both the Lunar Jetman strip ( written and illustrated by John Richardson, based on the character from the games by Ultimate Play The Game ) and The Terminal Man, an original piece of fiction written by Kelvin Gosnell and illustrated by Oliver Frey.

John S. Lewis ( born 1941 ) is a professor of planetary science at the University of Arizona ’ s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory.

He has said that among his most treasured achievements at NASA were his contributions to the Apollo program Lunar Landing in 1969, which fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's mandate of 1961 ; helping to rescue America's experimental space station Skylab after its near-disastrous launch into orbit on May 14, 1973, making it habitable and eminently successful for three sets of U. S. Astronauts later that year ; and also " rescuing " the backup Skylab version from being discarded so it could be publicly displayed in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, instead of being sold for scrap.
