The population is 633 ( all on Robinson Crusoe ); of those 598 reside in the capital, San Juan Bautista, on Cumberland Bay on the north coast of the island ( 2002 census ).

The leader of this revolt, Gen. José María Moncada, declared that he supported the claim of exiled Liberal vice-president Juan Bautista Sacasa, who arrived in Puerto Cabezas in December, declaring himself president of a " constitutional " government.

He was one of the three rulers of the country, the others being Sandino and the mostly figurehead President Juan Bautista Sacasa.

Juan Bautista de Anza, governor of the Province of New Mexico, led a successful punitive expedition in 1779 against the Comanches.

Juan Bautista de Anza Bezerra Nieto ( July 6 / 7, 1736 – December 19, 1788 ) was a Novo-Spanish explorer and Governor of New Mexico for the Spanish Empire.

Juan Bautista de Anza was born in Fronteras, Sonora, ( near Arizpe, into a military family on the northern frontier of New Spain.

He was the son of Juan Bautista de Anza I.

In the Olympic Games held in Paris in 1924 a team composed by Juan Miles, Enrique Padilla, Juan Nelson, Arturo Kenny, G. Brooke Naylor and A. Peña obtained the gold medal ; this also occurred in Berlín 1936 with players Manuel Andrada, Andrés Gazzotti, Roberto Cavanagh, Luis Duggan, Juan Nelson, Diego Cavanagh and Enrique Alberdi.

In 1853, a constituent assembly adopted a constitution based primarily on the ideas of Juan Bautista Alberdi, and Urquiza was inaugurated president in March 1854.

This was a group of activists, who included Esteban Echeverría, Juan Bautista Alberdi, and Bartolomé Mitre, who spent much of the 1830s to 1880s first agitating for and then bringing about social change, advocating republicanism, free trade, freedom of speech, and material progress.

Though, based in San Juan, Sarmiento was absent from the initial creation of this group, in 1838 he wrote to Alberdi seeking the latter's advice ; and in time he would become the group most fervent supporter.

Juan Bautista Alberdi was born in San Miguel de Tucumán, capital city of the province of Tucumán, Argentina, in the year of the May Revolution, the beginning of Argentine emancipation from the motherland, Spain.

Juan Bautista Alberdi moved at an early age to Buenos Aires, where he studied in the " Colegio de Ciencias Morales " ( roughly, a secondary school for study of social sciences ).

Because of his participation in the Argentine " Generation of ' 37 ", a group of young and liberal intellectuals heavily influenced by the Enlightenment and liberal thought ( among these young men were, also, Esteban Echeverría and Domingo Faustino Sarmiento ), and his refusal to swear allegiance to the Federal regime of the feared caudillo ( military and political strongman ) Juan Manuel de Rosas, in opposition to whom he wrote several books, Alberdi in 1838 fled Argentina to begin a voluntary exile: first, in Montevideo ; then, in Europe ; and, afterward, in Chile.

The most notable human rights abuses of this period were the brutal slaying of Bishop Juan José Gerardi two days after he had publicly presented a major Catholic Church sponsored human rights report known as REMHI, and the disappearance of Efraín Bámaca Velásquez, also known as Comandante Everardo, who, it was later revealed, was tortured and assassinated in 1993 without trial by Guatemalan Army officers on the payroll of the CIA.

The reality of Juan Diego's existence has been questioned by a number of experts on the early religious history of New Spain including Bernardino de Sahagun, Joaquin Garcia Icazbalceta, Stafford Poole, Louise Burkhart and David Brading, who argue that there is a complete lack of sources about Juan Diego's existence prior to the publication of the Nican Mopohua a century later, in 1649 ( they do not accept the validity of the Codex Escalada as historical evidence ).
