After being attacked by a mind-controlled Ka-Zar and eventually freeing him, Deadpool, Weasel and Bob discover Brainchild has taken over.

He has had four self-titled series ( 1970 – 1971 ; three issues, mostly reprints ), 1974-1977 ( 20 issues ) by Mike Friedrich, 1981-1984 ( Ka-Zar the Savage, 34 issues ) by Bruce Jones and Mike Carlin, and 1997-1998 ( 20 issues ) written by Mark Waid.

The first Ka-Zar, David Rand, was a typical " jungle lord " in the Tarzan vein, also known as Ka-Zar the Great, who first appeared in the pulp magazine Ka-Zar # 1 ( Oct. 1936 ) from Manvis Publishing, one of many magazine companies owned by Martin Goodman.

IGN listed Ka-Zar as the 84th greatest comic book hero of all time describing the character as Marvel's equivalent of Tarzan ; IGN also compared Ka-Zar as the protector of his land with Namor being protector of the underwater king, with the only difference being is that Ka-Zar isn't a total jerk and having a better loin cloth.

The character who later becomes Mockingbird first appears in a short sequence in Astonishing Tales # 6 ( June 1971 ) in which a frantic young brunette arrives at the English country estate of Lord Kevin Plunder ( who is also known as " Ka-Zar ").

As noted in Ka-Zar # 12, Lockjaw also travels to the Heroes Reborn universe with his Inhuman family.

Zabu had many adventures in New York City, as he assisted Ka-Zar and Shanna against Parnival Plunder, who wished to kill them all.

The Super Hero Squad fought the villains on top of a construction site where Zabu assisted Ka-Zar and the Super Hero Squad by attacking Batroc the Leaper and Sabretooth.

The New Avengers ' Spider-Man is knocked away by a Tyrannosaurus and ends up confronting Ka-Zar, Shanna, Zabu, and Sauron as well as some of the other locals.

Ka-Zar joined the Avengers teams into fighting the Skrulls in New York while Shanna and the other Savage Land natives hunted down the remaining Skrulls hiding out in the Savage Land.

Ka-Zar was rescued by the Avengers, but left the Savage Land for the civilized world.

Fixer then invaded the West Coast Avengers Compound in an attempt to steal Iron Man's armor, but was defeated by Iron Man and Ka-Zar.

Ka-Zar, Shanna, and Zabu wandered until the High Evolutionary ( with help from the X-Men, M ' rin and Garokk ) restored the region and its creature allowing them to return to the Savage Land with their newborn son.

The two quickly became obsessed with each other, and nearly departed Earth to create a new world of their own, but Ka-Zar convinced Shanna otherwise.

The territory was later reconstructed by the High Evolutionary using Garokk, and Ka-Zar and Shanna returned with their newborn and resumed their previous roles.

After Ka-Zar repulsed the invaders, Klaw flees into the Sheenarian dimension, and unable to salvage anything substantial from his allies, uses their technology to return to Earth.

In the Savage Land, some territories are populated by several human or humanoid tribes, and while most of them are on friendly terms with Ka-Zar, some of them consider him an outlander and an enemy.

Ka-Zar asked Peter to watch Zabu while he attends a world summit on global warming.

Framing the flashback is a sequence of newer material by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema in which Barbara ( now revealed to be " Dr. Barbara Morse " and thus the character from the Wein / Adams Man-Thing story ) and Paul ( now " Dr. Paul Allen ") accompany Ka-Zar back to the United States and explain that they sought him out so that he could help them deal with the problems surrounding the appearance of the Man-Thing in Florida.

Ka-Zar had many team-ups with the X-Men, who first revealed the Savage Land's existence, Spider-Man, and many other superheroes who had visited the Savage Land.

Ka-Zar fought and defeated Thanos in one of his many attempts to end life, and later sought the help of investigator Jessica Jones for assistance locating Zabu.

He befriended Ka-Zar and used his medical skills over many months to care for Ka-Zar's allies.

Zabu helps Ka-Zar battle many enemies.

Considered to be " god-like " by the natives, David Rand ended up named Ka-Zar ( native for " Brother of Zar ").

Spider-Man soon encounters Ka-Zar, Shanna, Zabu, and some of the natives accusing them of being Skrulls.

In the Secret Invasion storyline, Sauron allied with Ka-Zar, Shanna the She-Devil, Zabu, and the natives when the Skrulls were invading the Savage Land.

At one point, Spider-Man teamed up with Ka-Zar to save Gwen Stacy from Kraven the Hunter and Gog at the time when her class and J. Jonah Jameson were visiting the Savage Land.

The aboriginal inhabitants were wiped out and only a small tribe of survivors including Ka-Zar and Shanna remain.

Also included were Al Anders ' Western hero the Masked Raider ; the jungle lord Ka-Zar the Great, with Ben Thompson adapting the story " King of Fang and Claw " by Bob Byrd in Goodman's eponymous pulp magazine Ka-Zar # 1 ( Oct. 1936 ); the non-continuing-character story " Jungle Terror ", featuring adventurer Ken Masters, drawn and possibly written by Art Pinajian under the quirky pseudonym " Tohm Dixon " or " Tomm Dixon " ( with the published signature smudged ); " Now I'll Tell One ", five single-panel, black-and-white gag cartoons by Fred Schwab, on the inside front cover ; and a two-page prose story by Ray Gill, " Burning Rubber ", about auto racing.

Ka-Zar was one of the three Marvel titles in the early 1980s to be available only via subscription or from a direct distribution comics specialty store ( the other two were Moon Knight and The Micronauts ).

Traveling to the Savage Land, X-23 and the X-Men team-up with the Savage Land's lord Ka-Zar and his allies, the Savage Land Mutates, to prevent the Hauk ' ka from destroying human civilization by exerting control over the weather-manipulating X-Man, Storm.
