In the years 1931 to 1934 Kenyon worked simultaneously at Samaria, then under the administration of the British Mandate for Palestine, with John Crowfoot and Grace Crowfoot.

The earliest remains consist of extensive rock cut installations, initially thought to date to the Early Bronze Age by Kenyon, these have recently been re-evaluated, first by Stager and then by Franklin, and are now recognized to be the remains of an extensive early Iron Age oil and wine industry ( designated Building Period 0 ).

The town of Holcomb was thrust into national headlines on November 15, 1959, when four members of the prominent Clutter family — Herbert, 48 ; his wife Bonnie, 45 ; daughter Nancy, 16 ; and son Kenyon, 15 — were found bound and shot to death in various rooms of their home, on the family's River Valley Farm on the outskirts of Holcomb.
