In 1960 archaeological evidence of the only known Norse settlement in North America ( outside of Greenland ) was found at L ' Anse aux Meadows on the northern tip of the island of Newfoundland, in what is now the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
New findings from L ' Anse Aux Meadows show that these vinber were seen by the Norse.
One of the few reasonably consistent pieces of information is that exploration voyages from the main base sailed down both the east and west coasts of the land ; this was one of the factors which helped archaeologists locate the site at L ' Anse Aux Meadows, at the tip of Newfoundland's long northern peninsula.
