The second studio to switch from " story sketches " to storyboards was Walter Lantz Productions in early 1935, by 1936 Harman-Ising and Leon Schlesinger also followed suit.
This new Oswald model was adapted directly from a non-Oswald character in another Lantz cartoon: the Cinecolor " Fox and the Rabbit " ( 1935 ), released some two months earlier as the last of the early Cartune Classics series.

However, the studio benefited from gaining talent from the other studios who were tired of the management there and usually found the Lantz studio a more enjoyable working environment.
Lantz first used " The Woody Woodpecker Song " in the 1948 short Wet Blanket Policy, and became the first and only song from an animated short subject to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song.
