Starting in 1932, Lantz ceased to use a regular voice actor for Oswald, and many studio staff members ( including Lantz himself ) would take turns in voicing the character over the years.

Tex Avery was just one of the many talents Walter Lantz Productions benefited from on the rebound.

Some of the characters in the Lantz universe ( both cartoons and comics ) are Oswald the Lucky Rabbit ( formerly ), Space Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, Homer Pigeon, Chilly Willy, Charlie Chicken, Wally Walrus and many more.

Butler briefly turned his attention to TV commercials, although he quickly moved to providing the voice to many nameless Walter Lantz characters for theatrical shorts later seen on the Woody Woodpecker program.

Unlike many voice actors who did most of their work for one studio, Frees worked extensively with at least nine of the major animation production companies of the 20th century: Walt Disney Studios, Walter Lantz Studios, UPA, Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, Jay Ward Productions and Rankin / Bass.

Apart from this, before Mr. Bug's release, Walter Lantz, Paul Terry and Leon Schlesinger were considering producing animated feature films, but after responding to the disappointing results of this film and the initial failures of Walt Disney's other own two films Pinocchio and Fantasia, the projects were later eventually canceled.

Meany, Miny and Moe ( three ne ' er-do-well chimps ), Baby-Face Mouse, Snuffy Skunk, Doxie ( a comic dachshund ) and Jock and Jill ( monkeys that resembled Warner Brothers ' Bosko ) were some of the personalities Lantz and his staff had come up with.

Scripts were written for the shorts by the Hal Roach comedy writing staff, which included at various times Leo McCarey, Frank Capra, Walter Lantz and Frank Tashlin, among others.

After graduating from Chouinard Art Institute, Jones held a number of low-ranking jobs in the animation industry, including washing cels at the Ub Iwerks studio and assistant animator at the Walter Lantz studio.

Animator Bill Nolan did the voice of Oswald in Cold Turkey, the first Lantz cartoon with dialogue, and the following year Pinto Colvig, who was working as an animator and gag man at the studio, started voicing Oswald.

Walter Benjamin Lantz ( April 27, 1899 – March 22, 1994 ) was an American cartoonist, animator, film producer, and director, best known for founding Walter Lantz Productions and creating Woody Woodpecker.

After the studio closed in 1963, Davis went to Walter Lantz Productions as an animator.

Palmer used the Lantz studio as a background for his novel Cold Poison, in which the cartoon star was a penguin character, and Lantz adopted the penguin idea for the screen.

The second studio to switch from " story sketches " to storyboards was Walter Lantz Productions in early 1935, by 1936 Harman-Ising and Leon Schlesinger also followed suit.

This new Oswald model was adapted directly from a non-Oswald character in another Lantz cartoon: the Cinecolor " Fox and the Rabbit " ( 1935 ), released some two months earlier as the last of the early Cartune Classics series.

With licenses for characters from Walt Disney Productions, Warner Brothers, Metro Goldwyn Mayer, Edgar Rice Burroughs and Walter Lantz Studio, Western produced comics based on these characters, as well as original works.

DeWitt represented Tensas Parish from 1964 – 1968, and then from 1968 – 1972, he and Lantz Womack of Winnsboro, the seat of Franklin Parish, together represented Franklin, Tensas, and Madison parishes.

Warner Bros shut down the Original Termite Terrace studio in 1963 and DePatie-Freleng Enterprises assumed production of the shorts, licensed by Warner Bros. In 1935 Lantz made his studio independent from Universal Studios, and Universal Studios was now only the distributors of his cartoons, instead of the direct owners.

Luckily for Lantz Woody Woodpecker's survival was lengthened when he started appearing in The Woody Woodpecker Show from 1957 to 1958, from which it entered syndication until 1966.

In 1935, the studio was severed from Universal and became Walter Lantz Productions under Lantz's direct control, and in 1940 Lantz managed to gain the copyright for his characters.

However, the studio benefited from gaining talent from the other studios who were tired of the management there and usually found the Lantz studio a more enjoyable working environment.

Lantz first used " The Woody Woodpecker Song " in the 1948 short Wet Blanket Policy, and became the first and only song from an animated short subject to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song.

The first forty-five Woody Woodpecker shorts — from Knock Knock to The Great Who-Dood-It — were presented on the box set in chronological order of release, with various Chilly Willy, Andy Panda, Swing Symphonies, and other Lantz shorts also included.

Lantz was born in New Rochelle, New York to Italian immigrant parents, Francesco Paolo Lantz ( formerly Lanza ) and Maria Gervasi from Calitri.
