Michael Lerner ( born 1943 ) is a political activist, the editor of Tikkun, a progressive Jewish interfaith magazine based in Berkeley, California, and the rabbi of Beyt Tikkun Synagogue in Berkeley.

Lerner has been quoted in Jewish Weekly as saying that the nonseminary track is one that " every Chabad rabbi takes, & every ultra-Orthodox rabbi ".

Lerner and Loewe's first collaboration was a musical adaptation of Barry Conners's farce The Patsy called Life of the Party for a Detroit stock company.

In that same year Lerner also wrote the Oscar-winning original screenplay for An American in Paris, produced by Arthur Freed and directed by Vincente Minnelli.

In 1965 Lerner collaborated again with Burton Lane on the musical On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, which was adapted for film in 1970.

At this time, Lerner was hired by film producer Arthur P. Jacobs to write a treatment for an upcoming film project, Doctor Dolittle, but Lerner abrogated his contract after several non-productive months of non-communicative procrastination and was replaced with Leslie Bricusse.

In 1973, Lerner coaxed Fritz Loewe out of retirement to augment the Gigi score for a musical stage adaptation.

Lerner wrote in his autobiography ( as quoted by The New York Times ): " All I can say is that if I had no flair for marriage, I also had no flair for bachelorhood.

The divorces cost him much of his wealth, but Lerner bears primary responsibility for his financial ups and downs, and was apparently less than truthful about his financial fecklessness.

( Musseli told friends she had not wanted to sell her home, but that Lerner urged her to cut her ties with her native city and that she entrusted Lerner with the proceeds of the sale, for investment in the U. S .) The daughter of a World War One French war hero and herself an unsung heroine of the Resistance, whose Corsican forebears were intimates of Napoleon Bonaparte, she later made Lerner the gift of a chateau in France after he declared to her that he wanted a French rural retreat where he could write.

In a 1979 interview on NPR's All Things Considered, Lerner went into some depth about his lyrics for My Fair Lady.

" Lerner said he knew the lyric used incorrect grammar for the sake of a rhyme.

Part of the reason that Hayek stressed the knowledge problem was also because he was mainly concerned with debating the proposal for Market Socialism and the Lange Model by Oskar R. Lange ( 1938 ) and Hayek's student Abba Lerner ( 1934, 1937, 1938 ), which was developed in response to the calculation argument.

Burton appeared on Broadway, receiving a Tony Award nomination for Time Remembered ( 1958 ) and winning the award for playing King Arthur in the musical Camelot ( 1960 ), directed by Moss Hart and written by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe.

According to Lerner, " he kept the boat from rocking, and Camelot might never have reached New York if it hadn't been for him.

After serving for five years as dean of the graduate school of psychology at the New College of California ( now defunct ) in San Francisco, Lerner and his then-wife Nan Fink created a general-interest intellectual magazine called Tikkun: A Bimonthly Jewish Critique of Politics, Culture and Society.

Similarly, some rabbis have challenged Lerner's decision to not be trained for the rabbinate in a classical Jewish Seminary ( although Lerner did spend three years as a student at Jewish Theological Seminary ).

When Lerner attacked seminaries for being " more interested in producing organizational men for Jewish life than spiritual leaders connected to the deepest spiritual and social-justice minds ", Rabbi Alan Lew said " That is arrogant nonsense ...

In February 2007, Lerner published a column entitled " There Is No New Anti-Semitism ," in which he criticized some American Jewish organizations for labeling critics of Israel as antisemites.

In 2003, the San Diego Jewish Journal described Lerner as " the most controversial Jew in America ," writing that " He is relentlessly critical of Israel.

The former mayor of Curitiba and governor of Paraná, Jaime Lerner, is of Jewish Polish ancestry.

A few of these devotees, like Waskow and Lerner, became writers of note and " public square " intellectuals in the Jewish community and in the Jewish Renewal movement.

Lerner was born to a Jewish family originally from Łódź, Poland in Curitiba.
