It began when the ruler of Wei, Cao Cao, was defeated by Liu Bei and Sun Quan at the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Liu Bei and Sun Quan declared themselves emperor of Shu and Wu respectively.

Tao Qian received the support of Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan, but even then it seemed as if Cao Cao's superior forces would overrun Xu Province entirely.

Tao Qian died in the same year, leaving his province to Liu Bei.

Lü Bu fled to Xu Province and was received by Liu Bei, and an uneasy alliance began between the two.

In 197, Yuan Shu, who was at odds with Cao Cao, Yuan Shao, and Liu Bei, felt assured of victory with his subordinate's conquests, and thus declared himself emperor of the Cheng Dynasty.

Sun Ce complied, but first convinced Cao Cao to form a coalition against Yuan Shu, of which Liu Bei and Lü Bu were members.

Afterwards, Lü Bu betrayed Liu Bei and seized Xu Province, forming an alliance with Yuan Shu's remnant forces.

Soon, preparations were made for an attack on Lü Bu, and the combined forces of Cao Cao and Liu Bei invaded Xu Province.

He collaborated with Liu Bei on this effort, but Cao Cao soon found out about the plot and had Dong Cheng and his conspirators executed, with only Liu Bei surviving and fleeing to join Yuan Shao in the north.

The dynasty was founded by Liu Yu 劉裕 ( 363 – 422 ), whose surname together with " Song " forms the most commonly used name for the dynasty, the Liu Song 劉宋.

At this Congress Liu stood together with Deng Xiaoping and Peng Zhen against those who supported Mao's policies, led by Chen Yun and Zhou Enlai.

He holds off Cao Cao's army together with Zhang Fei while Zhao Zilong searches for the infant Liu Shan.

Lu Xun personally led an attack on Shu forces together with Xu Sheng and Han Dang, and succeeded in preventing Liu Bei from making his last stand.

Zhuge Liang went to meet Sun Quan, as Liu Bei's envoy, together with Lu Su at Chaisang to discuss the formation of the alliance.

During this period of time, Lü Zhi started an illicit affair with Shen Yiji ( 審食其 ), one of Liu Bang's followers who was also held captive together with her.

Lü Zhi then summoned Liu Ruyi, who was around the age of 12 then, to Chang ' an, intending to kill him together with his mother.

The arrival of Zhao Yun replenished the tired soldiers who were worn by the three-year campaign, and together they surrounded Chengdu, forcing Liu Zhang to yield.

" Liu Bei then ordered his son, Liu Shan, to administer state affairs together with Zhuge Liang and regard Zhuge as his father.

Showing unswerving loyalty to the CPC, Liu led the Nanchang Uprising together with Zhu De, He Long, Ye Ting, Li Lisan and Zhou Enlai, effectively declaring war on the KMT.

In Nov 1948, Liu, Deng, Chen, Su and Tan Zhenlin ( 谭震林 ) together formed the Military Committee to command the massive Huai Hai Campaign, which was carried out by CPC troops in East China and the central plain to fight against the KMT main forces in Xuzhou and Anhui.

While Emperor Jing was crown prince, Liu Pi's heir apparent Liu Xian ( 劉賢 ) had been on an official visit to the capital Chang ' an, and they gambled together by playing the liubo board game ( heavily tied to divination and predictions of the future ).

Two months later, as Zhang Liang predicted, Han Xin and Peng Yue arrived with their armies and formed a coordinated attack on Western Chu together with Liu Bang's force, defeating Xiang Yu at the Battle of Gaixia in 202 BC.

As a consequence, the Liu clan and Xiahou clan were linked together though Liu Shan's marriage with Zhang's daughter.

When saying the names Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, although the surnames are different, yet we have come together as brothers.

The Han Dynasty ( 202 BC – AD 220 ) emerged in 206 BC, with its founder Liu Bang proclaimed emperor in 202 BC.
