In 1605 he was consecrated Bishop of Chichester and made Lord High Almoner.

In January, Adam Moleyns, Lord Privy Seal and Bishop of Chichester, was lynched.

FitzAlan was elected Member of Parliament for Chichester in 1894, a seat he held until 1921, and served briefly under Arthur Balfour as a Lord of the Treasury in 1905 and under H. H. Asquith and later David Lloyd George as Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury from 1915 to 1921 ( jointly from December 1916 onwards ).

Due to the patronage of Lord Chichester and Lord Malmesbury, he was given the post of Junior Lord of the Admiralty in the ministry of the Duke of Portland.

Spencer, along with the successive Chief Secretaries, Chichester Fortescue and Spencer's own cousin, Lord Hartington, supported coercive legislation to deal with the increase in agrarian crime, but at the same time supported a policy of releasing Fenian prisoners when possible.

In the 17th century, Parliament settled at Chichester House, a town house in Hoggen Green ( later College Green ) formerly owned by Sir George Carew, Lord President of Munster and Lord High Treasurer of Ireland, which had been built on the site of a nunnery disbanded by King Henry VIII at the time of the dissolution of the monasteries.

He did not, as it turned out, return until the summer of 1794, after an absence of seven years, having in the meantime executed another ideal commission ( a " Cephalus and Aurora ") for Thomas Hope, and having sent home models for several sepulchral monuments, including one in relief for the poet William Collins in Chichester cathedral, and one in the round for Lord Mansfield in Westminster Abbey.

Thomas Pelham, 2nd Earl of Chichester PC, PC ( Ire ), FRS ( 28 April 1756 – 4 July 1826 ), styled The Honourable Thomas Pelham from 1768 until 1783, The Right Honourable Thomas Pelham from 1783 to 1801, and then known as Lord Pelham until 1805, was a British Whig politician.

Chichester was surveyor-general of ordnance in Lord Rockingham's 2nd ministry ( 1782 ), and Chief Secretary for Ireland in the coalition ministry of 1783 ( when he was also appointed to the Privy Council of Ireland ).

Lord Chichester died in July 1826, aged 70, and was succeeded in his titles by his eldest son, Henry.

Lord Lincoln married Lucy Sydney ( d. 1736 ), daughter of Robert Sydney, 2nd Earl of Leicester ( see the Earl of Chichester for earlier history of the Pelham family ).

One of his sons, Sir Arthur Chichester, was Lord Deputy of Ireland from 1604 to 1615.

Arthur Chichester, eldest son of Lord Spencer Chichester, second son of the first Marquess, was created Baron Templemore in 1831.

Lord Arthur Chichester, fourth son of the second Marquess, and Lord John Chichester, sixth son of the second Marquess, both represented Belfast in Parliament.

Robert Chichester, eldest son of Lord Adolphus Chichester, youngest son of the fourth Marquess, briefly represented Londonderry South in Parliament.

* John ( 1331 – 1358 ), Lord of Elche, Biel and Bolsa, married in 1355 to Isabel Núñez de Lara and was killed by order of his cousin Pedro of Castile.

# Héloise / Helvis of Lusignan ( c. 1190 – 1216 – 1219, 1216 / 1219 or c. 1217 ), married firstly c. 1205 Eudes de Dampierre sur Salon, Lord of Chargey-le-Grey, div.

He married the heiress of Richard de Beauchamp, 1st Earl of Worcester, whose father had inherited the castle and estate of Abergavenny, and was summoned in 1392 to parliament as Lord Bergavenny.

Their daughters Cristina and María both married into the high nobility ; Cristina to Ramiro, Lord of Monzón, grandson of García Sánchez III of Navarre via an illegitimate son ; María, first ( it is said ) to a prince of Aragon ( presumably the son of Peter I ) and second to Ramón Berenguer III, count of Barcelona.

Catherine Parr, Henry's widow, soon married Thomas Seymour of Sudeley, Edward VI's uncle and the brother of the Lord Protector, Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset.

Both proved unenthusiastic, and in 1565 Mary married Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, who carried his own claim to the English throne.

Lord Aberdeen married Lady Catherine Elizabeth, daughter of Lord Abercorn, in 1805.

In 1828 Severn married Elizabeth Montgomerie, the natural daughter of Archibald, Lord Montgomerie ( 1773 – 1814 ) and the ward of Lady Westmoreland, one of the artist's patrons in Rome.

Lord Jellicoe married Gwendoline Cayzer in London in July 1902.

He married Marion, daughter of Thomas Boyd, 6th Lord Boyd, and left nine children:

Lord Abinger was twice married ( the second time only six months before his death ), and by his first wife ( d. 1829 ) had three sons and two daughters, the title passing to his eldest son, Robert.

Isabella's half-brother John of Ibelin, the Old Lord of Beirut governed as regent until 1210 when Maria married an experienced French knight, John of Brienne.

Lucrezia was married to Giovanni Sforza ( Lord of Pesaro ), Alfonso of Aragon ( Duke of Bisceglie ), and Alfonso I d ' Este ( Duke of Ferrara ).

* Jane, who married Lord Grey de Ruthin.

A second nephew, Niccolò, was made reigning Prince of Piombino and Lord of the Isola d ' Elba in 1634, having married the heiress, 30 March 1632.

In 1922, she married Edward Hilton Young, later Lord Kennet ( she becoming Lady Kennet ), and remained a doughty defender of Scott's reputation until her death, aged 69, in 1947.

Mary rejected him, and instead married Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, a descendant of Henry VII, giving Mary a stronger claim to the English throne.

On 26 March 1564 Knox stirred controversy again, when he married Margaret Stewart, the daughter of an old friend, Andrew Stewart, Lord Ochiltree, a member of the Stuart family and a distant relative of the Queen, Mary Stuart.

On 29 July 1565 when Mary married Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, some of the Protestant nobles rose up in rebellion including James Stewart.

Her husband, Lord Darnley, had been murdered in apparent revenge for the assassination of Rizzio ( who was a favourite of Mary's ), upon which the Queen almost immediately married the chief suspect.

Lady Greville, daughter of the late Lord Chancellor Bromley and niece of Sir John Fortescue, was offered twenty pounds by the townsmen to make peace ; ;

Another memorial, the Nile Clumps near Amesbury, are stands of beech trees purportedly planted by Lord Queensbury at the bequest of Lady Hamilton and Thomas Hardy after Nelson's death.
