The same year, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Lord Derby, Queen Victoria granted Lindsay a pension of £ 100 a year.

Sir David Lindsay of the Mount the Lord Lyon, the head of the Lyon Court and diplomat, was a prolific poet.

A later sixteenth century Scottish attitude to the futility of the battle was given by Robert Lindsay of Pitscottie, in the words he attributed to Patrick Lord Lindsay at council before the engagement.

Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount, ( also spelled Lindsay ) ( c. 1490 – c. 1555 ) was a Scottish Lord Lyon and poet of the 16th century, whose works reflect the spirit of the Renaissance.
