In 1391 it was conquered by Brancaleone Doria and Marianus V of Arborea, of the independent Sardinian Giudicato of Arborea, of which it became the last capital.

Perhaps the most notable feature of Máel Coluim's death is the account of Marianus, matched by the silence of the Irish annals, which tells us that Donnchad I became king and ruled for five years and nine months.

Her eldest son Frederick died during this war and was succeeded by her younger son, Marianus V. An alliance was formed with Genoa which sustained Arborea's independence for another generation.

The Uffizi in Florence, in addition to the bronze statue of Marianus brought from Siena, has a panel depicting the Madonna created by Vecchietta.

After the enraptured Doctor Marianus extols the Eternal Feminine, the virgin Mary, Mater Gloriosa, appears from on high.

The oldest known works are the Codex Marianus from the 10th century, and the Grašković-and Mihanović fragment from the 11th century, all written in the Glagolitic script.

Marianus Scotus tells how the king made a pilgrimage to Rome in 1050, where, Marianus says, he gave money to the poor as if it were seed.

The same is true of Marianus Scotus's Chronicle of the Popes, a text written in the 11th century.

Its libraries contain a number of ancient documents, among them the condaghes, Sardinia's first legal codes and the first documents written in the Sardinian language ( 11th century ) and the famous Carta de Logu ( the constitution issued by Marianus IV of Arborea and updated later by his daughter the Giudichessa Eleanor of Arborea ) in the 14th century.

In 1353 Marianus IV of Arborea, allied with the Doria family, waged war against the Catalan, defeating them at Decimum and besieging Sassari, but unable to capture Cagliari.

Máel Coluim died in 1034, Marianus Scotus giving the date as 25 November 1034.

In 1353 Aragon made war on Arborea, then fought with its leader Marianus IV of Arborea, but did not reduce the last of the autochthonous giudicati ( indigenous kingdoms of Sardinia ) until 1410.

A bronze tomb statue of Marianus Soccinus the Elder ( a noted Sienese jurist ) for the church of San Domenico is now shown at the Uffizi in Florence.

Born at Molins de Rei, Catalonia, Eleanor of Bas-Serra was the daughter of Marianus IV of Arborea, who had become in 1346 giudice of Arborea, on the west coast of Sardinia, and his wife Timbora de Rocabertí.

Marianus died in 1376 and was succeeded by his son Hugh III.

The giudicato of Arborea survived much longer compared to the other giudicati and greatly expanded its territory in the 14th century, reaching its peak under Marianus IV the Great and Eleanor, its heroine.

The libretto is now attributed to Ignaz Anton von Weiser, although Johann Adam Wieland or Jakob Anton Marianus Wimmer had been suggested earlier.

Later, Marianus attended a Council of Antioch.

Between 1012 and 1018 Thietmar of Merseburg wrote a Chronicon, or Chronicle, in eight books, which deals with the period between 908 and 1018.

Speaking of himself in his Chronicon januense, he says, " While he was in his order, and after he had been made archbishop, he wrote many works.

Covering some of the same ground Walsingham wrote a Chronicon Angliae ; this deals with English history from 1328 to 1388.

Archbishop Lanfranc also wrote a Chronicon Beccense of the life of Herluin, and of the first four abbots, which was published at Paris in 1648.

The 13th-century German chronicler Arnold of Lübeck, author of Chronicon Slavorum, wrote that the Danes had wealth and an abundance of everything thanks to the yearly catches of herring at the Scanian coast.

Jacob also wrote a Chronicle, as a continuation of the Chronicon of Eusebius.
