Martí as a liberator believed that the Latin American countries needed to know the reality of their own history.

Like Sarmiento and José Martí, he believed that as a writer he could not only comment upon the world, but influence it.

Early on, Martí believed the exploitation of the country's poor was for the profit of the rich, and he became known as a Salvadoran revolutionary and a martyr for the Salvadoran Left.

In the second “ Boletin ” that Martí published in the Revista Universal ( May 11, 1875 ) one can already see Martí ’ s approach, which was fundamentally Latin American.

Maceo was contacted by José Martí and urged to initiate the War of 1895, called by Martí the “ necessary war ”.

Martí responded with his formula of “ the army, free ; but the country, as a country with all its dignity represented ,” and convinced Maceo of the high probabilities of success if the war was to be prepared carefully.

Several days later, Martí, treated as a non-military “ Doctor ” by Maceo, would fall in battle in Dos Ríos ( confluence between the rivers Contramaestre and Cauto ).

In November 1920, he was detained together with Salvador Seguí ( known as El Noi del Sucre ), Martí Barrera, Josep Viadiu, and other trade unionists and was deported to the Castell de la Mola in Mahón, on Menorca.

The counts of Cerdanya were great patrons of abbeys, most famously Saint-Michel de Cuxa ( Catalan: Sant Miquel de Cuixà ), dating back to the 10th century and located in Conflent, and Saint-Martin-du-Canigou ( Catalan: Sant Martí del Canigó ), dedicated by Count Guifred of Cerdanya in 1009.

On January 5, 1892, Martí participated in a reunion of the emigration representatives, in Cayo Hueso, the Cuban community of Key West where the Bases del Partido Revolucionario ( Basis of the Cuban Revolutionary Party ) was passed.

The expedition, composed of Martí, Gómez, Ángel Guerra, Francisco Borreo, Cesar Salas and Marcos del Rosario, left Montecristi for Cuba on April 1, 1895.

The FMLN was formed as an umbrella group on October 10, 1980 from the left-wing guerilla organizations: the Fuerzas Populares de Liberación Farabundo Martí ( FPL ), Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo ( ERP ), the Resistencia Nacional ( RN ), the Partido Comunista Salvadoreño ( PCS ) and the Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores Centroamericanos ( PRTC ).

He completed his three books on Martí ( none of which were published in his lifetime and one of which remains unpublished ), wrote a work on Balzac, and continued to write poems ( notably his Tres poemas del anochecer -- Three Poems at Dusk -- the last work he published in Sur ).

Martin-du-Canigou ( also " Saint-Martin-du-Canigou " or just " Canigou ", in Catalan Sant Martí del Canigó ) is a monastery built in 1009 in the Pyrenees on Canigou mountain in present day southern France near the Spanish border.

On September 8, 2006, it was revealed that at least ten South Florida journalists received regular payments from the U. S. government for programs on Radio Martí and TV Martí, two broadcasters aimed at undermining the Cuban state.

As a precondition, Maceo demanded that highest command should be in the hands of Gómez, which was approved without reservation by the Delegate of the Cuban Revolutionary Party ( Martí ).

In Cuba, where he returned by requirement of his friends in the Authentic Revolutionary Party, he played a notorious part in the political life of Havana, being recognized as a promoter of social legislation and author of the speech pronounced by President Carlos Prío Socarrás when the body of José Martí was transferred to Santiago de Cuba.
