The Eye of the World revolves around the lives of a group of young people from Emond's Field in The Two Rivers district: Rand al ' Thor, Matrim ( Mat ) Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, Egwene al ' Vere, and Nynaeve al ' Meara.

The story features young heroes Rand al ' Thor, Mat Cauthon, and Perrin Aybara, who join Shienaren soldiers in a quest to retrieve the Horn of Valere.

* In the city of Ebou Dar in Altara, Elayne Trakand, Nynaeve al ' Meara, Aviendha, and Mat Cauthon search for a ter ' angreal, the Bowl of the Winds, to break the unnatural heat brought on by the Dark One's manipulation of climate.

Book 3, The Dragon Reborn, was in fact told almost exclusively from the points-of-view of Mat Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, and Egwene al ' Vere, despite the fact that it is undoubtedly about Rand ( all three parties eventually follow him to Tear and are present when he pulls the sword Callandor from the Stone and proclaims himself the Dragon Reborn ), and the following books have continued in following the adventures of other characters besides Rand, to such a degree at times that in the tenth book, Crossroads of Twilight, Rand only appears in two chapters and the epilogue.

Alanna was also one of the Aes Sedai who were responsible for Healing Mat Cauthon from the taint of the Shadar Logoth dagger.
