In 1917, at the advent of World War I, Odenton ’ s growth was spurred by the establishment of Fort Meade.

The Raikhana glacier originates on the east side of Meade ’ s Col saddle, flows east of Abi Gamin, and unites with the East Kamet Glacier.

After World War II, First Army headquarters was located on Governor ’ s Island, N. Y. On January 1, 1966, First and Second Armies merged and First Army headquarters moved to Fort Meade, Md.

Defenestration is credited in the book Road to Nirvana as one of the bands that influenced Kurt Cobain ’ s music and Billy Corgan often credited Chainsaw Kittens as one of his favorite bands — Corgan even once wrote Meade when he was working the first Smashing Pumpkins album lauding the brilliance of Chainsaw Kittens first album, Violent Religion.

Meade ’ s musical interest eventually gravitated to musicians like New York Dolls, David Bowie, T-Rex ( band ), and Patti Smith.

Bell suggested that Meade ’ s songs would be perfect for the band.

Meade recalled, “ I thought it was ridiculous, but I didn ’ t have any other options I could think of, so I decided to play the kids my songs .” After holding practice session for a month in 1989, Chainsaw Kittens were born, their name a nod to their trashy punk guitar sound and baby faces.

And while it had a lot do with creative statement, it was also the work of Meade ’ s increased understanding of his chosen industry:

With the new lineup, featuring Meade, Metzger, McBay, Preston, and Bell, the band recorded their sophomore effort, Flipped Out in Singapore, for which they employed the services of Nirvana ’ s Nevermind producer, Butch Vig.

Allegheny campus features a blend of modern and historic architecture set on in a neighborhood once known as Pittsburgh ’ s Millionaires ’ Row and extending to the once posh " Monument Hill " area ( that rises above and behind modern day Heinz Field ) so named for a Civil War monument dedicated on May 30, 1871 by General George G. Meade and Governor John W. Geary.

H. V. Meade began printing the town ’ s paper, the Orenco Herald in 1914.

He was replaced by George Meade, who followed Lee into Pennsylvania for the Gettysburg Campaign, which was a victory for the Union, though Lee's army avoided capture.

Due to his western successes, Ulysses S. Grant was given command of all Union armies in 1864, and organized the armies of William Tecumseh Sherman, George Meade and others to attack the Confederacy from all directions, increasing the North's advantage in manpower.

Gettysburg was his finest hour, but his relief by Maj. Gen. George G. Meade caused lasting enmity between the two men.

The ostensible reason was a report by XI Corps commander Maj. Gen. Oliver O. Howard that Doubleday's corps broke first, causing the entire Union line to collapse, but Meade also had a long history of disdain for Doubleday's combat effectiveness, dating back to South Mountain.

Doubleday was humiliated by this snub and held a lasting grudge against Meade, but he returned to division command and fought well for the remainder of the battle.

Prodded by President Abraham Lincoln, Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker moved his army in pursuit, but was relieved just three days before the battle and replaced by Meade.

In February 1918 he was transferred to Camp Meade in Maryland with the 65th Engineers.

The book was written by Jim Davis, with music and lyrics by Michael Dansicker and Bill Meade, and it was booked by AWA Touring Services.

Born on October 31, 1959 in Fort Meade, Maryland, Stephenson came from a family of engineers and hard scientists ; his father is a professor of electrical engineering whose father was a physics professor.

In 2006, The Baltimore Sun reported that the NSA was at risk of electrical overload because of insufficient internal electrical infrastructure at Fort Meade to support the amount of equipment being installed.

Meeting with Lee, Longstreet was concerned about the strength of the Union defensive position and advocated a strategic movement around the left flank of the enemy, to " secure good ground between him and his capital ," which would presumably compel the Union commander, Maj. Gen. George G. Meade, to attack defensive positions erected by the Confederates.

Grant and Meade suddenly decided to use the mine three days after it was complete after a failed attack known later as the First Battle of Deep Bottom.

Although he was as responsible for the defeat as Burnside, Meade escaped immediate censure.

However, in early 1865, the Congressional Joint Committee on the Conduct of the War exonerated Burnside and condemned Meade for changing the plan of attack ( which did little good for Burnside, whose reputation was ruined ).

It was created in 1889 and was named for Fort Meade, which was garrisoned as a United States military post in the area in 1878 and was named for General George Meade.

The county is named for Captain James M. Meade of the 17th U. S. Infantry Regiment, who was killed in action at the Battle of River Raisin during the War of 1812.

Moonfleet is a tale of smuggling by the English novelist J. Meade Falkner, first published in 1898.

Maj. Gen. Sherman would attack Atlanta and Georgia, while the Army of the Potomac, led by Maj. Gen. George Meade with Grant in camp, would attack Robert E. Lee's Army of Virginia.

* November 26 – American Civil War – Mine Run: Union forces under General George Meade position against troops led by Confederate General Robert E. Lee ( Meade's forces can not find any weaknesses in the Confederate lines and give up trying after 5 days ).

A classic definition influenced by Kenneth Arrow and James Meade is provided by Heller and Starrett ( 1976 ), who define an externality as “ a situation in which the private economy lacks sufficient incentives to create a potential market in some good and the nonexistence of this market results in losses of Pareto efficiency .” In economic terminology, externalities are examples of market failures, in which the unfettered market does not lead to an efficient outcome.

Under similar circumstances, previous Union commanders had chosen to withdraw behind the Rappahannock, but Grant instead ordered Meade to move around Lee's right flank and seize the important crossroads at Spotsylvania Court House to the southeast, hoping that by interposing his army between Lee and Richmond, he could lure the Confederates into another battle on a more favorable field.

" Military historians Herman Hattaway and Archer Jones wrote, " Unenthusiastic about the attack, Longstreet consumed so much time in properly assembling and aligning the corps that the assault did not commence until 4 p. m. During all the time that passed, Meade continued to move in troops to bring about a more and more complete concentration ; by 6 p. m. he had achieved numerical superiority and had his left well covered.

It took place on July 30, 1864, between the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, commanded by General Robert E. Lee and the Union Army of the Potomac, commanded by Major General George G. Meade ( under the direct supervision of the general-in-chief, Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant ).

Despite this careful planning and intensive training ( by Civil War standards ), the day before the attack, Meade, who lacked confidence in the operation, ordered Burnside not to use the black troops in the lead assault, claiming that if the attack failed black soldiers would be killed needlessly, creating political repercussions in the North.

As part of the Base Realignment and Closure, DISA is planning to move from Arlington, Virginia to Fort Meade, Maryland by September 2011.

It is, in area, the second largest county in South Dakota, its size being exceeded only by Meade County.

Although the Kansas Constitution was amended in 1986 to allow the sale of alcoholic liquor by the individual drink with the approval of voters, Meade County has remained a prohibition, or " dry ", county.
