Wolf Grigorevich Messing (,, Vóľf Gérškovič ( Grigór ' evič ) Méssing ; 10 September 1899, Góra Kalwaria ( Ger ), Poland – 8 November 1974, Moscow ) was an alleged psychic and telepathist whose predictions were taken seriously by both Hitler and Stalin during WWII.

Messing was born in Poland, territory of the Russian Empire at that time, near Warsaw and claimed that his psychic abilities developed in his early life.

According to Messing, he was able to broadcast mental suggestions in order to alter people's perceptions.

Messing was arrested and then interrogated by Stalin himself about the outcome of the war.

Stalin's first challenge to Messing was for him to perform a ' psychic bank robbery '.

Messing was able to gain entry, again he claimed by using hypnosis.

Having gained Stalin's trust, Messing was given free rein to travel over the Soviet Union.

When Krushchev asked Messing what the outcome of the crisis would be, he was assured that it would not lead to world war three.

As a result, the scripts for Series Five ( which Horne had jokingly suggested should be subtitled ' The First All-Nude Radio Show ') were hastily adapted into a new series for Kenneth Williams called Stop Messing About, which was widely judged a failure and discontinued in 1970.

He is perhaps best known as the formal announcer on Beyond Our Ken ( 1958 – 1964 ), its more famous successor Round the Horne ( 1965 – 1968 ) and the short-lived Stop Messing About ( 1969 – 1970 ), where his ' BBC accent ' was used to comic effect.
