This operating system was used as the basis of AmigaDOS ( file-related functions of AmigaOS ); MetaComCo won the contract from Commodore because the original planned Amiga disk operating system called CAOS was behind schedule ; timescales were incredibly tight and TRIPOS provided a head start for a replacement system.

MetaComCo also developed ABasiC for the Amiga which was initially provided with Amigas.

Much to Commodore's annoyance MetaComCo also worked with Atari to produce the BASIC that was initially provided with the Atari ST — ST BASIC.

MetaComCo acquired the rights to the 68000 version and continued development until TRIPOS was chosen by Commodore Amiga in March 1985 to form part of an operating system for their new computer.

In AmigaOS 1. x, AmigaDOS was based on a TRIPOS port by MetaComCo, written in BCPL.

Perihelion Software Limited was a United Kingdom company founded in 1986 by Dr. Tim King along with a number of colleagues who had all worked together at MetaComCo on AmigaOS and written compilers for both the Amiga and the Atari ST.

Other computer languages followed, also licensed by Digital Research and MetaComCo established an office in Pacific Grove, California, to service their USA customers.

MetaComCo also represented LISP and REDUCE software from the RAND Corporation.

In 1986 Tim King left his job at MetaComCo, along with a few other employees, to start Perihelion Software in England.

Several of the team at MetaComCo went on to found Perihelion Software.

While at MetaComCo, much of the Perihelion Software team had worked with both Atari Corp. and Commodore International, producing ST BASIC for the former, and AmigaDOS for the latter.

In the early 1980s, Tim King joined MetaComCo from the University of Bath, bringing with him some rights to an operating system called TRIPOS.

MetaComCo secured a contract from Commodore to work on AmigaOS, with the AmigaDOS component being derived from TRIPOS.

In 1986, King left MetaComCo to found Perihelion Software, and began development of a parallel operating system, initially targeted at the INMOS Transputer series of processors.

Atari commissioned MetaComCo to write a version of BASIC that would take advantage of the GEM environment on the Atari ST.

However, during the tour of Australia in 2006 / 7, the MCC official accompanying the urn said the veil legend had been discounted, and it was now " 95 % certain " that the urn contains the ashes of a cricket bail.

Note that even if a PRL is restrictive according to the preferred only indicator, the use of wildcard SID / NID or MCC / MNC values as preferred systems would essentially make the PRL permissive because wildcards match any system that is located.

MCC ( as it was known ) initially featured the Atari 2600, an Equinox 100, 9 Processor Technology Sol 20 computers ( S-100 bus systems ), the Radio Shack Model I and the Commodore PET.

MCS is a more generalized term which includes systems that do not satisfy the stricter size, shape, or duration criteria of an MCC.
